I have been in a lot of pain & the thought of having a hip replacement at 43 years old terrified me. I had always walked & was a keen mountain biker before I suddenly became aware of pain in my right leg. Gradually my life became a completely different life. I was in pain every day.,I was restricted with movement stretching dance etc so eventually I had no choice but to bite the bullet and look for an Orthopaedic Specialist who could help me. Straight away,I felt at ease with Mr Kim .He was keen to get me back to living an active life. I am writing this 8 months after surgery & I am cycling & walking almost every day. I would recommend to anyone who is suffering from severe arthritis of the hip to not be afraid & to seek help from someone as trustworthy as Mr.Winston Kim I gained a lot of weight over the last few years whilst I was struggling in pain & I'm starting to loose it again by being more active.Thank you Mr Winston Kim!

I had been in quite a bit of pain for over 12 months with an arthritic hip. I had difficulty sleeping, couldn't walk without pain and had a bad limp. On referral to Mr Kim, he said the x-ray showed it was "bone on bone" and time for a replacement. I was extremely apprehensive about the operation as I had never stayed overnight in hospital in my 66 years. Mr Kim reassured me completely. His calm professionalism and thorough explanation of the process convinced me that his expertise and experience would change my life for the better. It did. The operation went smoothly and exactly as it had been described by Mr Kim and his team. Throughout my hospitalisation, I was kept fully informed of progress and felt confident that I was in the care of quality professionals. Seven weeks later I am walking normally, sleeping well and able to drive. In consultation, Mr Kim was professional but friendly and reassuring. He has a great 'bedside' manner. In theatre, Mr Kim was a serious, professional team leader. From my first contact with Mr Kim I have felt completely confident that I was in safe, experienced hands. And that allayed my fear of the unknown. And it's changed my life.

Pleasant, highly competent (same can't be said for his anaesthetist as I ended up with low sodium, potassium and magnesium levels and in intensive care). Had surgery in mid March, discharged from hospital 5 days later, discharged from physio late may- now sailing, hill walking etc - initially could not straighten knee but worked at it and am now delighted with the new knee!

Once I was referred to Mr Kim no time was wasted and my surgery for a hip replacement was carried out very quickly. I had advanced arthritis and it was bone on bone, extremely painful and difficult to walk. I should have been referred to him much sooner, but the NHS seem to be using delaying tactics through Kingsgate House which ultimately accumulates bigger problems. Now, thanks to Mr. Kim I have made a good recovery and I am able to walk again. However, greater care needs to be taken to advise patients that an epidural can immobilise the bladder and bowels for several days. I had to have a catheter fitted. I thought this was unusual and it was extremely worrying. It was only later that the urology dept at Stepping Hill told me that this was quite common. If I had known in the first place I would not have been so worried. I am extremely grateful to Mr Kim, he has given me my life back. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

I sought a consultation with Mr Kim in order to identify the cause of problems I was having with my hip following relatively recent hip replacement surgery undertaken at another hospital. I was unable to walk and in quite some pain. Mr Kim listened very carefully, and having examined my hip arranged an immediate CT scan. He identified a fracture as the cause of the pain and contacted me the following day to outline his findings. I felt very re-assured by him and would not hesitate to seek his services again in the future, should the need arise. Dr Penny Noel
