Written by a private patient at Broomfield Hospital

Was within four weeks of hip surgery and the Consultant William Martin knew about my mental health, for the previous 10 months. He was offered telephone numbers to contact, had letters proving 'I am actually sane' and I had a complete team behind me supporting me. The day I had my pre-op I knew that I would be walking my Xmas, plus able to lose weight, get fit, and get my mental health on track - but instead of going ahead, it was cancelled as I walked into my house. My MH nurse tried to reason with the miserable nurse on the other end of the phone, but after every excuse under the sun, they had decided no. So I had to join another hospital and wait a further 6 months, until I could hardly walk. So thanks for that, I just hope that you know how dreadful it is suffering with mental health, and receive the same lack of empathy and understanding one day. To give you an idea, I would rather have 1000 hip replacements, than one day of breaking up in my mind, because no medical professional could diagnose me for decades. The hospital spent three months messing me around, saying that they would 'organise a meeting with my MH team and them' but then just let it get forgotten, on their side of course. My MH team waited and waited, just to help me, and my own Psychiatrist stated out loud 'That is Discrimination against Mental Health, I'm going to write to the GMC.' I wouldn't imagine that Springfield could say that an eminent Psychiatrist was wrong, do you? So No, I would not recommend Springfield Hospital, Nor William Martin either. What a waste of 10 months on his list waiting, plus a further 6 months, because of William Martin backing out - cheers for that.
