Following a nasty RTA in 2016 I was referred to Mr Patel via NHS in 2016. He diagnosed the severe problem I was having with my right shoulder and arranged for my surgery. I progressed well and my right shoulder is repaired and functionals well now. 2 years ago my left shoulder became extremely painful and mobility started to be compromised and the pain intense and continuous. I remembered my exercises from the previous time but to no avail, I was becoming worse by the day. This time I was able to access physiotherapy via BUPA and was able to chose Mr Patel to be my physician once more. He assessed my mobility and pain and it was apparently a slower reaction to that original RTA. Mr Patel listened to my concerns and gave me options of treatment. I had 2 separate steroid injections in-line with the protocol which initially eased the pain but it returned and the pain was so intense that I was unable to sleep at night, it also compromised my life with the lack of movement and mobility. Surgery became the next option and I was given full information and was able to make an informative decision. I underwent a Left Shoulder Arthroscopy, excision of calcium deposit and acromioplasty. All care and attention was given to me. Following surgery the recovery was as Mr Patel had stated it would be. I am recovering well. I’m back to swimming, my passion and daily life is now pain free. I can sleep at night, hooray. I remain following my physiotherapists instructions and in a few months time my shoulder should be as good as the right one. Mr Patel listened to my concerns, he took my pain and lack of mobility seriously. He gave me constructive and professional advice at all consultations. Thank you

I was referred to Mr Patel by my GP with a condition that was identified as a "classic rotator cuff injury)". I was seen quickly funded by BUPA and Mr Patel immediately after an X ray and ultrasound at the first appointment re-diagnosed the issue as a frozen shoulder apparently common in Type 1 diabetics. I was offered 3 alternative treatments and chose the arthroscopic capsular release. Mr Patel was clear, confident and courteous at all times and I felt confident I was in good hands. within several weeks I was a day patient at Spire St Anthony's Hospital for the procedure which was well explained. The nursing staff and the anaesthetist were excellent and I left the same day with clear instructions and medication. Within a few days I was almost fully mobile and certainly with more range than previously, I started physio and had several follow up appointments with Mr Patel. In month 2 the joint started to stiffen up and the guidance from Mr Patel was that this was normal and would improve with more stretches and physio in month 3. I am now just over 3 months after the procedure and have around 95% movement regained and it should slowly improve over time. I was very pleased with the service and treatment I received and would recommend Mr Patel.

Dr. Patel performed surgery on my shoulder in 2009, the result was very successful. In 2018 i had further trauma to the shoulder joint and was referred back to him. With knowledge of my history and extensive analysis of the new issues, Dr. Patel clearly laid out a detailed and informative plan for moving forward with my treatment. With options for both physiotherapy and surgery. I opted for physiotherapy and have seen much improvement with my shoulder. The option for surgery is still available and i was well informed by Dr. Patel and his Team about the entire process, with research material also being given to me. All my questions were answered and I was made to feel comfortable with the options available and i feel very confident in the abilities of both Dr. Patel and his Team.

Mr Patel assessed my condition of Frozen Shoulder on our first meeting and considering I had had pain and considerable constricted movement with the onset over 18 months previous and having tried courses of osteopathy, steroid injections and physiotherapy to no avail, he arranged surgery for me asap. I had my procedure within a fortnight of our first meeting and had phone consultations before and after also. Post procedure I had 2 and a half months of physiotherapy, and I worked really hard at doing all the exercises and now at 4 months have 95% movement in my left shoulder. My shoulder is still sore and sleeping on that side is uncomfortable but it is getting better slowly. The only challenging thing I found with my treatment was the three way communication/opinion with the physiotherapist and Mr Patel. Their opinions differed quite a lot and I was only given the 8 weekly sessions Mr Patel asked for and was signed off as soon as possible after that. I do believe the hospital had major constraints due to the Covid-19 pandemic but all the same this was quite disappointing. I found the stretching and strength exercises were really affecting my neck so stopped soon after my physio ended. Despite this I do casual stretching still and find my daily activities are getting easier day by day, including driving, hanging out washing and gardening. Due to the pandemic I have not been able to return to my previous activities of Badminton and Ballroom Dancing but believe they would be fine now. I am really pleased with the outcome of my surgery. My arm has been released from its constriction which was stopping me dress properly and even put my hair up. I have also noticed a more positive mental attitude since the surgery as I am not constantly having to restrict what I do or find other ways of accomplishing simple day to day tasks. So many thanks for sorting out my issue.

Thank you Mr. Patel, For 23 three years following a RTA I have had shoulder joint pain accompanied by neck pain, and daily tasks were difficult for a long time. I finally had a total shoulder joint replacement in October 2019. Mr. Patel has a very professional approach, and I particularly liked his calming manner when having to face this complex operation. I received good care from the medical staff throughout my stay with everything fully explained. Particularly reassuring were the anaesthetists who put me at my ease and also the staff when I woke up as I had had a frightening experience with my breathing in the past. I am sorry to say the postoperative nursing staff were not always understanding or helpful. Following the operation I experienced a lot of pain and this was tough for 3-6 months. I now feel I have regained the use of my left arm, am pain free and am able to do tasks normally. As a result of this operation, my neck issues have also dramatically improved. Thank you
