The operation, performed by Mr. Patel, was to re-attach three tendons in my right shoulder. This proceeded exactly as explained to me. The whole experience from first appointment to sign-off was efficient and reassuring. The LifeBox App was very helpful, taking me through the stages of the repair and recovery. As an engineer I was interested to know how the reattachment was achieved and Mr Patel explained the technical details of my particular operation. Well done, I am now back doing my usual physical activities and hope to start sailing again soon.. If I were to suggest an improvement it would be pre-operation familiarisation with the support sling worn afterwards, for six weeks in my case.

Just before the pandemic I developed a frozen shoulder- I don’t know how or why. I had started the process of X-rays and physio and then we went into the first lockdown with NHS being deployed and an anxiety about performing steroid injections. I couldn’t sleep, the pain was excruciating and it really impacted my life. Eventually I got a steroid injection which helped the pain but my range of movement was significantly impacted and it was still painful if I used the muscles. Mr Patel and his team saw me and were extremely helpful. Most important he listened to me and what mattered to me ( simple things such as fastening my bra, putting my hair up and more complex things such as swimming and exercise). He suggested a manipulation under anaesthetic or a shoulder arthroscopy. He explained both procedures and I opted for the arthroscopy. I had the operation 6 weeks ago and it has made such a huge difference. Sure I have some way to go with getting back full pain free movement and strength but I am well on the way. The physio team have seen me and progressed the exercises. It can be worrying to go under anaesthesia and I will never ever forget the nerve block and not knowing where my arm was when I woke up, but I am so glad I had the procedure. I would whole heartedly recommend Mr Patels team and I thank them all so much.

It would be a strange thing to say I enjoyed my injury and obviously wish it had never happened, however if you could choose the dream team Mr Patel would be the head man. 100% professional and such a nice man. Handled everything amazingly and I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him as the man to go to. The team around also a big help and his secretary Mala is a complete honey. I really can’t say enough good things about my experience and I’m so grateful for the first class journey I have experienced. Dean Ward
