The issue with my eyes started back in June 2021 I had been suffering with blurry vision for a while, the worse was when I struggled to read of my screens, both laptop and smart phone. I was back and forth at my high street opticians, who kept advising I use drops and gels and come back in two weeks which went on for a few months. I was then referred to the ophthalmology department at my then local hospital, and was disappointed to learn I would be offered a ‘telephone’ consultation (RVI) for an eye condition! I was advised to start using various new drops and gels which suppressed the condition, but it came back. I then started to self-diagnose my condition and thought I had Sjögrens syndrome so spoke to my doctor and had various blood test, turned out I didn’t so it was back to square one. I then decided it was time to try an independent optician for a second opinion and after a couple of appointment, I was advised to either go Private / NHS to see a specialist ophthalmologist. I needed help and was worried I was going to lose my sight and had already lost my independence with not been able to drive for a couple of months, or even watch TV clearly. I went Private (why have Wealth, if you don’t have Health) I was fortunate to be booked in to see Mr. Patel within a week with the help of my new opticians, who told me Mr. Patel is one of the best, if not the best in his field. Mr. Patel, was polite, calm and patient, he completed an extensive examination and he explained everything in simple terms to me. He explained the issue with my eyes may have been caused by extensive contact lenses wear over the years and maybe eye make-up too. Every time I blinked my inner eye lids scratched my cornea, hence the blurry vision. He prescribed me new medication and recommended I should stop using some of my previous gels and eye drops. In which I was very pleased to hear, as I did feel I was using too many. The new medication felt better within a few days/week, he did say it would take time to fully heal and I continued to see Mr. Patel over a few months. My eyes are now back to normal and I can drive! Mr. Patel has given me my life back and I will be eternally grateful for his attentive support throughout. My only lesson I learned from this is I should have consulted a second opinion earlier. THANK YOU!

I found Mr Patel to be caring and dedicated to helping people with their eye problems. He takes the time to explain everything and is willing to listen to all your questions and provide you with all the answers where he can. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone who is considering having eye treatment that falls within his remit, if you have any doubts about having any procedure done on your eyes you will feel confident having spoken to him. After you have the procedure done and have worries about the healing process you can email him and where necessary he will ring you, he is easily accessible.

Mr Patel has given me exemplary care. From the first consultation he was both professional and very kind and caring. He explained every aspect of my problem and how he would treat it. I had complete trust in him and felt safe undergoing the surgery he recommended. The results of the surgery performed on September 12 th in the Ophthalmic Day Unit have been amazing. My distance vision is excellent and close vision far better than before. I would also like to thank all members of the ODU who made the experience so positive.

I first saw Mr Patel as an NHS referral from my optician. I didn’t have to wait long. Mr Patel talked through the process of cataract removal and explained my options in terms of lenses. I am relatively young in cataract terms and very active. It was important to me to be spectacle independent if possible. I’d had refractive laser surgery to correct my short sight in 2005 and the standard NHS lens was unlikely to remove the need for glasses completely. I therefore chose to go private and have lenses made specifically for me. It also meant I could have the surgery sooner which was a bonus but not a necessity. The pre op assessment was extremely thorough with multiple measurements and checks being undertaken to ensure my lenses were correct due to the earlier surgery The surgery itself was conducted on a Friday teatime and was quick and painless, the staff at the Woodlands were fantastic and I was in and out in no time. Mr Patel called me on the Saturday morning to check how I was doing, how amazing is that? He also asked if he could see me during the week to check my eye and the lens so he could get an early indication of its accuracy. By the time I saw him on the Thursday, my eye had started to become very dry, he was very surprised and concerned, he provided me with some lubricants and asked if I could come to see him again the following morning. I arrived the next day and he had put together some reading literature and additional medication. He had also arranged for a replacement of the drops I was using and explained that he suspected I was reacting to something in the standard drops. He talked me through how I needed to massage my eyes and how to use the additional medication to deal with the blepharitis that had developed. He arranged another check up too so he could check on the progress and asked me to contact him if things didn’t start to improve in a few days. The change in drops and process of massaging improved the condition. After several weeks, my eye had repaired well enough to schedule my other eye. This time I had the alternative drops from the start which meant that immediately following this surgery my vision was significantly improved and I no longer needed my glasses at all! Mr Patel has been amazing. He is genuinely caring, extremely personable and very conscientious. I’m not sure I would have received the same level of care and understanding from a different specialist and I know exactly where I will be referring anyone to who is in need of an ophthalmologist! Whilst I ended up paying for the right solution for me, the freedom I now have is priceless! Thank you so much Mr Patel, I can’t describe how incredible it is to be able to see properly again without the inconvenience of glasses. I truly am grateful

The doctor put me at ease and made me comfortable, from talking and explaining what would happen and their continuous reassurances which made me feel that I 100% trust them. The staff were very welcome and I couldn't thank them enough!
