I met Mr Matthews at UH Wales early in 2013 after having a fall injuring both shoulders and tearing through my rotate cuff. I had several appointments with Mr Matthews , both pre / post op . During these appointments Mr Matthews was very easy to speak to regarding my condition , was extremely polite , and explained clearly and concisely, the injury I had sustained , what treatment was required , and how he would repair my injuries . I found Mr Matthews to be a very competent consultant / surgeon , and professional at all times, whilst instilling in me ( a nervous wreck ) every confidence . Thank you Tim Matthews, I can only wish you the very best , and every success . Tim Hobbs Penarth, South Glamorgan.

I was told that at 35, I needed a 'Tennis Elbow Release' which is the non technical version of what was happening, but I understood this after an explanation from the doctor. I was also told that the operation doesn't benefit everyone, I accepted that too. 2 days after the surgery, the 'ambient' pain I had in my left elbow was gone... I was in less pain 2 days later, than I was the day before the op. After 3 days I stopped taking the painkillers and anti inflammatories... due to some mix up (on my part) with Physio I was seen 8 weeks after the op, not 3 weeks to check my grip, which was the reason for the op, I'd basically lost over 75% grip. Previously I could grip 40lb of pressure and pain started after 10lb. During my post op physio, without any pain whatsoever I gripped 125lb of pressure... on my left hand... that is more than my RIGHT! I'm right handed. I really cannot praise this man enough, he's an absolute legend in my eyes, he did exactly what he told me he would do, remove the tendon from where it was troubling and shave down the bone. Job done, turns out it was exactly what I needed and frankly I'm staggered as to how well its gone. The man is also wonderfully responsive, whilst in his presence I felt like he listened to me 100% despite me being quite verbose. If I could rate the man higher I would, I'm going to press "add" now but really, this guy knows his job inside out and is absolutely bloody fantastic at it, I hate the fact that people have to be reviewed all the time but understand totally why it has to happen. This should serve as a notice though that Mr. Tim Matthews does not need any more reviews during his career, he really is that good and isn't at all the type of doctor that this system is trying to find out about. I just wish every doctor/surgeon was called Tim Matthews ^o^

My final visit to Mr Timothy Matthews' outpatient clinic on 16th July 2013 was as usual, thorough and informative. My right shoulder and arm pain together with limited use, was making life unbearable. There was temporary relief from injections and physio but to settle the problem an arthroscopy operation was required. This was carried out as planned in April 2013 by Mr Matthews and his Team. The pre-op and post-op care was excellent, every detail was explained, any questions answered plainly and every care taken to make me as comfortable as possible. The follow up Physio by Graham in hospital and Helen in the community has proved immensely beneficial. I am almost back to 100% of use and comfort, being able to live without constant pain is a real blessing. Many thanks and utmost appreciation to Mr Matthews and his Team.

An initial consultation as an outpatient surrounding very painful elbows (bursitis and gouty deposits) recommended surgery. This was conducted, as day surgery, within a relatively short space of time and has made a huge difference. My only observation is that as my surgery was fairly late in the day (around 3.30pm) I was subsequently discharged around 8pm without an appointment to re-attend or any advice on what to do or not to do with my arm which was in plaster cast. Subsequent calls to the ward over the next few days were met with very helpful staff who eventually advised. Overall very positive - just a minor point ref discharge. I am very greatful to all staff involved and Dr. Matthews.

i desparately need a shoulder operation to repair a rotator cuff injury which has been causing me so much pain.. Mr Matthews did not want to go ahead as I have a hickman line in my chest at the moment (for chemotherapy). The reason he has posponed the op is the potential high risk of infection..I had another appointment with another surgeon (not related to my shoulder) at the Heath and mentioned that Mr Matthews was not keen to go ahead and he 100% agreed that the shoulder op should be posponed as an infection could be disasterous at this stage of my treatment. Mr Matthews was right to delay but said he would look at me as soon as treatment finished also offered alternative pain relief until i am well enough for op.
