Mr Kane has shown dedication and determination in the pursuit of excellent care for a tertiary care hip problem for a friend of mine that is extraordinary. I have witnessed a level of personal patient engagement and teamwork with multidisciplinary teams both on site and also with other centres providing this level of complex hip surgery. His own outstanding dedication is supported by excellent caring and enthusiastic medical, nursing and paramedical colleagues who have made my friends complex medical care run efficiently and compassionately. This is complex hip care at its best - Queen Alexandra Hospital and Mr Kane's team should be proud. No wonder he was recommended by another orthopaedic hip surgeon who has previously worked with him.

I made an appointment to see Mr Tim Kane having seen his qualifications and experience through the many patient reviews. From the first appointment Mr Kane was professional, honest and explained in detail my required surgery for a right total hip replacement. I was reassured by his straightforward and optimistic approach to my situation. I had the surgery in September 2023 having seen Mr Kane for a consent appointment a week prior where again he clearly outlined the intended procedures and gave me the opportunity to discuss any concerns I may have. From the moment I arrived at the hospital I was treated with kindness and respect. The anaesthetist clearly explained the surgery would be undertaken via spinal block rather than general anaesthetic, the theatre staff assisting Mr Kane were exceptional and the nurses and HCA’s on ward one were kind and afforded me dignity, especially on the first night post-surgery. I can honestly say that Mr Kane has giving me my life back; I cannot thank him enough. From day 1 post-surgery I no longer had the arthritic pain that had disabled me for so many months. The surgical pain quickly subsided, and I followed all advice and physiotherapy to ensure a rapid recovery which was evident to Mr Kane at my 8 week check-up. I would not hesitate in recommending Mr Kane for his exceptional surgical skills and professional manner.

I had been suffering from a lot of knee pain as well as difficulty walking. I attended a knee clinic in late 2022 and met with Mr Kane who I had met before when he performed an arthroscopy on one of my knees. Over the course of several subsequent consultations and x-rays he suggested that it was highly likely that hip arthritis might actually be the cause of the pain and suggested a cortisone injection in my hip to assess the impact on my knee pain. This bore out his diagnosis as the knee pain completely disappeared for a short period afterwards. We therefore agreed that a total hip replacement on my worst affected hip would be the way forward and this took place in July 2023. The operation was very successful, the knee pain has disappeared and 8 weeks on my mobility is increasing daily. Throughout the whole episode I was extremely happy that Mr Kane was my consultant. He was very approachable but highly professional and most importantly was able to provide a correct assessment of my situation. His skill as a surgeon was evident by my rapid recovery post operation. I would also mention that the care given to me by the staff at Spire Hospital was wonderful. From the nursing staff to the care attendants, all were friendly and helpful with nothing seeming to be too much trouble - and the food was great as well!

I fractured my right neck of femur in March 2023 following a fall at home. As I was fit and active with no osteoarthritis of my hip a dynamic screw fixation was recommended and carried out the following day at Queen Alexandra Hospital. It was indicated that there could be a risk of this repair not working which was explained fully. For ten weeks post surgery I progressed well but did have always some residual pain. Unfortunately the pain increased and my function gradually reduced and I became dependent on two crutches again. Returning to the outpatients for an urgent X ray and review it was apparent that the fracture and failed to unite and the fixation was unstable. A total hip replacement was now required and I was referred to Mr Kane. Mr Kane assessed me one week later and was very thorough in his explanations and clinical reasoning for my hip replacement and the implications for my recovery and function as this would be a revision of the dynamic screws and therefore more complicated. He requested further X rays at that appointment and agreed that he would perform the surgery later that week. The results of the X rays showed further deterioration and Mr Kane explained that he would not have wanted to wait longer and risk further damage to the hip. The surgery was performed on 16th June 2023 under general anaesthetic and my post operative care was uneventful with only minimal pain that was well managed. My rehabilitation progressed quickly and I was discharged home on day 5. I have now had my post operative review with Mr Kane and discharged. I have been pain free since two weeks post surgery and my rehabilitation has been excellent. I am so grateful that the revision of the dynamic screws and the subsequent total hip replacement were dealt with so promptly, minimising further damage and facilitating a successful recovery and return to independence and mobility.

I found Mr Kane very good at listening and informing me what was going to happen during my op which was a hip replacement and also what to expect afterward. During the op which I was fully awake it seemed to me he was very competent and the op went great from start to finish. He came to see me after the op and also 8 weeks later and he always listened to my concerns and kept me in the picture. I was very happy the way it all went and so happy to have had it done Regards trev
