Participated in 1 year Echocardiography fellowship. Dr Samuels was a great mentor in learning this difficult skill, putting in a lot of his free time in order to supervise us performing and reporting scans, as well as arranging mock exam practice. This is in addition to working as an anaesthetics and ICU consultant.
With his guidance I was able to attain BSE level 1 accreditation and I am very grateful for his patience and dedication to teaching -- thank you!

Dr Samuels asked some questions to understand some context to my echo, was clear in explaining what was happening and professional and thorough during the exam. In hindsight I didn’t ask how long the results might take and he didn’t suggest a lead time - am waiting on the results keenly.

Dr Samuels has been my mentor for the last 12 months teaching myself and a number of other clinicians how to do BSE Level 1 Echo as part of his Echo Fellowship Programme. This comprised of classroom based teaching, hands on echo experience, mock examinations, 1:1 review of scans and logbooks in time for the practical exam on 1/8/20 which each of the Echo Fellows undertook and passed.
During this time Dr Samuels has gone above and beyond to teach and prepare us and this was of particular use during the COVID-19 crisis as we were able to use our new skills to perform echo in the intensive care unit to help optimise patient care.
A number of notable things demonstrated by Dr Samuels made this possible including: organising weekend sessions to come in and work on our scans, staying late out of hours to monitor our practice on the echo simulator, and clinical and pastoral support over the telephone.
The experience has been beyond anything I could have expected as the time and dedication from Dr Samuels meant that the programme was completely tailored to my needs.
A brilliant year culminating in BSE accreditation.

As a British Society of Echocardiography accredited member in transthoracic echocardiography, I regularly undertake outpatient clinical echocardiography clinics for patients at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. In addition, I lead the critical care echocardiography service that provides urgent assessments for patients admitted to critical care and our high dependency unit. I also lead our very successful critical care ultrasound fellowship that supports trainees of all grades to achieve accreditation in echocardiography. Thank you for your review.
