Mr Aho carried out a HOLEP for me on March 9 and I went to see him for my follow up appointment on June 13. The procedure was such a success I was discharged. Mr Aho helped after I had been fitted with a catheter for 15 months during which time I had 27 'new' catheters fitted by my local NHS urology department. During my time under the control of Mr Aho he was without doubt the most kind and considerate consultant I had met. Prior to the operation he explained exactly what would happen and after the operation the information that he gave me was extremely accurate and I started to feel better and recover very quickly. My retirement had become a misery (unable to go anywhere and holidays cancelled) now with his help I am just a normal person again, no pain or discomfort. I am very grateful to him for giving me back my life.

Dr Aho is a very dedicated urological surgeon who goes out of his way to make his patients and their family comfortable during their hospital stay and operative procedures, about which I have first hand experience. The 'Centre of excellence' for urological surgeries that he has established at Addenbrookes is true to its words as an excellent one with a great team effort.Best wishes, Dr Aho in your professional journey and 'Thank you ' is too small a word to express our genuine feelings towards the care we received under you!

I was referred to Mr.Aho by my local consultant in Nottingham. From referral, through consultation to completion of procedure was a short timescale, which was of particular relevance to me. As my procedure was to be carried out in Cambridge,Mr.Aho arranged initial consultation arrangements to suit me;recommended accommodation facilities local to Addenbrookes(particularly helpful to ourselves) and after my procedure arranged for my three month review to be carried in Nottingham, removing the need to travel to Cambridge again. Also, after my procedure had been completed,I was able to keep in touch with Mr.Aho via his email address, such that any issues or questions were promptly dealt with which was very reassuring and certainly helped my convalescence. As I hope is evident from my comments I was very happy with all aspects of my dealings with Mr.Aho and would commend him to potential future patients.

Just had my three month check-up after Holium Laser BPH treatment with Mr Tevita Aho. After much research by myself on possible surgical Interventions for this condition, it was apparent that Holium Laser was now the ‘gold standard’ - with minimal side effects and best post - operative outcomes. Having had an MRI and rectal ultrasound, I was diagnosed with a much enlarged prostate, but thankfully it was benign . My symptoms were dramatically affected my QOL. Getting up to pee 4-6 times each night, needing to pee again within a few minutes of passing urine , looking for a suitable spot to stop and pee when driving and even occasionally leaking urine .... The procedure was completely painless, and I saw Tevita immediately before and after the op. I stayed in hospital overnight, but when the catheter was removed the following morning I found I was unable to pee at all. I was therefore sent home with a leg catheter. This was not s great problem , just an inconvenience. One week later the catheter was removed, and I was taught how to serve- catheterise by Mater, Tevita’s caring urology nurse. It was never necessary to self- catheterise after this, but I did have a slight problem with some leakage of urine after this. This leakage has slowly diminished after 3 months, and has now virtually stopped. I am doing my pelvic floor exercises religiously! The op has been a huge success for me. No more urgency, a great flow with a total emptying of my bladder, and getting up to Pee at night reduced to once- twice, which hopefully will diminish further with time. I am so pleased I choose Tevita. It appears he had performed more Holium treatments than any other surgeon in th UK-,more than 2000- I believe. He is extremely skilled, caring and empathetic .He gave me his email in case of any problems. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have - ask Tevita for my email address. I’m almost 73 years old . David Barbanel

My prostate was unusually large and causing the usual problems with urinating but also my bladder was not emptying fully and causing kidney malfunction. For several weeks this meant I had to wear a catheter to ensure the bladder kept emptying. Salvation came nearly three months ago with HoLEP surgery performed by Mr Tevita Aho and I am absolutely delighted with the end result. From start to finish there was no pain or complications except for some minor stinging when urinating but even this only lasted for a few days. I recovered from surgery very quickly (after only a couple of weeks) and I am now living a “normal” life again, back to where I was about 10-15 years ago. Throughout, Mr Aho has been extremely helpful and his care and proficiency during the procedure has ensured I now have my life back. I would certainly recommend Mr Aho and the HoLEP procedure to anyone suffering the symptoms that I was experiencing. “Health is wealth” and I cannot thank Mr Aho enough for alleviating my prostate problems.
