I feel very lucky to have been under the care of Mr Thomas for the treatment of my mouth cancer and I felt great confidence in how invested he was in getting me the right treatment from the first meeting. He was direct and realistic with the diagnosis and the available options, worked very hard to make sure that all the testing I needed was completed and followed up on as soon as possible, and my treatment plan was determined within a couple of weeks of the first meeting and then performed very shortly afterwards. He talked me through all of the options and presented me with his recommended course of action which was tailored specifically to my needs and the potential impact on my appearance as a younger patient. I’m really happy with the outcome, there were no complications with the surgery and, despite the difficulty associated with the tumour being far back on my tongue, he was able to avoid having to split my jaw to reach it and thus avoided any additional scarring. Every doctor that examined me during my recovery said that the reconstruction job was really impressive and neat. The aftercare has also been brilliant, with advice and referrals to relevant specialists to limit the long term effects and I’m recovering really well with minimal impact on my speech, mobility, or appearance. On top of all this, he’s also just a really nice person who I think genuinely cares about his patients and wants the best outcomes for them.

Last year 2020 just after the first covid lockdown my maxillofacial appointment was re arranged after being cancelled due to covid, I suffer with lichen planus and my tongue was sore , so was glad to get the appointment. When I got there my consultant had now left and his replacement was Mr Suraj Thomas. He examined me and took a biopsy on the spot a bit alarming for me but he was so calm it reassured me. 2 weeks later I went back for the results, I was devastated to discover it was cancer. I don't really remember much of what Mr Thomas said as I was in shock, however within 2 weeks I'd had scans , MRI and dental appointments and was admitted for my operation to remove the tumour. Mr Thomas was confident he could get it all . On the day of the operation when I went to theatre I was terrified, Mr Thomas knew this and was waiting for me in the pre op area, he even held my hand reassuring me all would be well. After my op before he went home he came to see me in recovery and said all had gone splendid but we had to wait for the lab to give us results. 2 weeks later I was back ( on a Saturday) to see Mr Thomas it was the best news ,he had got it all out and I didn't need any other treatment. I see Mr Thomas every 6 - 8 week to keep a check on things he said for the next 5 yrs he will see me which is a great reassurance. All Mr Thomas's team are amazing , that includes his wonderful secretary who is so kind and helpful. I can't thank Mr Thomas enough for his care and support its such a small word but thank you Mr Thomas for all you did and are still doing for me .

Having been diagnosed with Cancer back in 2001 at the age of 22, I have been under the care of many Maxillofacial Consultants over the years. However, I can honestly say that Mr Thomas is one of the best. This comes down to his calm and professional approach and the empathetic way in which he has helped me over the last 2 years with various operations I have had. Mr Thomas has always been upfront and honest about various treatments I have had and as a result I have always felt confident putting my trust in his ideas for the best course of treatment. More recently he has involved other specialists in my treatment and I can't thank him enough. I have no doubt that without his help and care I wouldn't be here today and my family will be forever grateful to him.

Sadly my wife passed away in June following a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. This awful period of her life was improved significantly because of the skill, care and empathy of Mr. Thomas and his team. Always honest and open in relation to the disease his approach was always kind and understanding. Not only did he significantly extend her life he always gave her the confidence that she wasn't just being left because she was terminal. My wife held Mr. Thomas in high regard and as a family we are grateful that her incredibly difficult journey was made that little bit less challenging by the approach he always took at every stage of the process.
