Last year 2020 just after the first covid lockdown my maxillofacial appointment was re arranged after being cancelled due to covid, I suffer with lichen planus and my tongue was sore , so was glad to get the appointment. When I got there my consultant had now left and his replacement was Mr Suraj Thomas. He examined me and took a biopsy on the spot a bit alarming for me but he was so calm it reassured me. 2 weeks later I went back for the results, I was devastated to discover it was cancer. I don't really remember much of what Mr Thomas said as I was in shock, however within 2 weeks I'd had scans , MRI and dental appointments and was admitted for my operation to remove the tumour. Mr Thomas was confident he could get it all . On the day of the operation when I went to theatre I was terrified, Mr Thomas knew this and was waiting for me in the pre op area, he even held my hand reassuring me all would be well. After my op before he went home he came to see me in recovery and said all had gone splendid but we had to wait for the lab to give us results. 2 weeks later I was back ( on a Saturday) to see Mr Thomas it was the best news ,he had got it all out and I didn't need any other treatment. I see Mr Thomas every 6 - 8 week to keep a check on things he said for the next 5 yrs he will see me which is a great reassurance. All Mr Thomas's team are amazing , that includes his wonderful secretary who is so kind and helpful. I can't thank Mr Thomas enough for his care and support its such a small word but thank you Mr Thomas for all you did and are still doing for me .
