After a procedure at a different hospital which left me with the inability to eat any solid food and even liquid was extremely difficult. I was getting to the point of thinking my 'normal' life was over. Mr Monkhouse then took over my case and has gone above and beyond to make sure that I received all the care I could to give me my life back. He and his team have been reassuring to me and have never made me feel like a nuisance when I was complaining of pain or discomfort. They have arranged and performed a variety of tests that were carried out by themselves and others, all of these happened very promptly and I felt my care was highly important. After my last surgery which so far has been very successful, he even takes the time to check on me when he is not even in the country. Mr Monkhouse was there to reassure my wife and family both pre and post op. They were always kept aware of everything that was happening and they found this to be of great comfort to them. He genuinely cares for his patients and their families and although I was left disillusioned by previous surgeons, I could never recommend Mr Monkhouse highly enough for his kindness and professionalism. I was truly blessed when placed under Mr Monkhouse's care.

I had previously had some negative experiences at East Surrey and was therefore reluctant to return when I became unwell. It quickly became apparent however when I met Mr Monkhouse that my experience would be different. I was in pain and feeling anxious and he listened carefully to my concerns, examined me, and quickly put in place a proactive plan for diagnosis of my condition. With remarkable speed and efficiency he arranged a number of tests and ultimately a diagnostic laparoscopy. On the day of the procedure I was struck by the very positive comments made by hospital staff in conversation with me about Mr Monkhouse. It was incredibly reassuring to hear positive comments prior to going into surgery and even afterwards in recovery and on the ward; and made it much easier to feel at ease. But more than platitudes to reassure a nervous patient, the comments seemed to be genuine respect and admiration. It meant that all my interactions with staff were framed in a positive way and made my experience completely different. I'm not sure I can identify what exactly it was that made Mr Monkhouse different. I was very fortunate that he was able to treat me and following the procedure the pain I had been experiencing was completely gone, which was wonderful. But even more than being a very good surgeon, he managed to be very human at the same time. Perhaps it is that we all want to work with nice people who are good at their jobs and in turn that motivates us to be the best we can be. Whatever it was, I could not have been more impressed by the quality of care I received.

Simon took a great deal of time in listening to my problems and ensured that the symptoms were completely understood. Once diagnosis was issued he gave a helpful explanation of the procedure and the effect on my body - a great biology lesson. This totally put my mind to rest that the surgery would have the desired effect. Which I am pleased to say it did! The team at Spire Gatwick were also of a great support - thanks to all.

I had a double inguinal hernia operation in September 2016 and Mr Monkhouse was the perfect surgeon. He consulted me and performed the operation and every step of the way I felt confident in him. Mr Monkhouse listens and shows interest in his patients, he is what every patient needs when facing a scary operation! All his staff were brilliant too! He is a 5 star Surgeon!

I would definitely recommend Mr Monkhouse to my friends and family. He went out of his way to get me the care I needed. Even after the operation he kept in contact to check how I was feeling, which I have never experienced before. Mr Monkhouse was very polite and welcoming and kept me informed on what was happening.
