I would definitely recommend mr monk house to my friends and family. He has been very patient and understanding about the problems I've had over the last 5-6 months. Whenever I needed to see him he would make sure he was able to see me within a couple of days. I would also like to say mr monkhouse always made sure he informed my family when I was in surgery as to what was going on. He used his on time to ring me out of working hours to make sure I was ok. Mr monkhouse is reliable, trustworthy, and very honest such a true gentleman the best doctor I have ever seen.

I met Simon for the first time the day and after I was referred privately my own GPs to see any available general surgeon at the Spire Gatwick Park Hospital. So in a way my meeting with him was rather fortuitous given that Simon was the only available consultant that had a slot that evening who I could see immediately and I was duly added to his list by the hospital outpatients dept. My GP’s own thoughts were that I may have a ventral hernia and they had me booked in for an Ultrasound scan under the NHS to confirm their diagnosis. When I met Simon, I explained all the clinical symptoms I had experienced and his first thoughts was that I might have a Spigelian hernia. If so he explained these are rather hard to find/ show up on either by Ultrasound or via CT scan. He advised that I needed to have a CT scan done immediately and one was arranged for the next day given that the radiography dept had closed at that time of the evening. Under his precise direction, the CT radiographer was able to locate a faint trace of what looked like I had an Epiploic appendagitis (so not a hernia) and Simon called the day after to inform me of this. We also agreed during the telephone call that he would set in motion to have me booked into the hospital to have an exploratory endoscopic examination as soon as possible to see for sure what was really going on. Simon apologized that it would take more than 7 days to set the operation up due to hospital admission rules. He would have preferred sooner. In the meantime the ultrasound scan performed at the request of my GP had revealed nothing. About a week and half later I had the endoscopic operation that revealed that I had a torted sigmoid epiploic appendix that had become necrotic which Simon removed. I was informed afterward that this was very rare and that this was only the second one of its type that Simon had ever seen in his career. I was so relieved that this had been caught in time given the rarity of the medical condition and the serious situation that I would have been left in had it not been discovered and removed in time, yet Simon made it sound so routine with a great outcome for all concerned. Medically he is outstanding from identifying and removing the problem. A simple ‘cut and shut’ case so to speak and I would recommend Simon to anyone who needs a diligent and excellent general surgeon in the Surrey area.

I went to Simon with an inguinal hernia. His initial consultation gave me great confidence and this was reinforced throughout the treatment. At each stage, he took the trouble to explain things and to provide me with the guidance I needed. Technically he is outstanding - the operation and recovery have been textbook cases. I am very glad I made the choice and would wholeheartedly recommend Simon to anyone in a similar situation.

From the start Mr Monkhouse put me at my ease and explained fully what he would do and why. He also clearly explained the after effects and how I should behave to assist the healing. I had full confidence in him from our first meeting and am delighted with the outcome of my Hernia operation. Today he signed me off and again explained what he had done and how my body was healing. I am more than happy to recommend him to anyone thinking of having a Hernia operation. You will be in very good hands.
