Sleeve Gastrectomy Mr Awad was just brilliant from my very first consultation. He was empathetic from the very first conversation we had whilst remaining positive about what I could achieve and encouraging as we talked through the options I had researched at length prior to contacting Tonic. Mr Awad and his team have been so supportive and kind during the last 9 months, there isn't anything that is too silly to ask them or worry too small for them to help with. I had regular contact with the team at Tonic for 4 months prior to my surgery. On the day of surgery they could not have done more to make me feel at ease. Mr Awad, the anesthetist, the nurses and the chauffeur were simply outstanding. They all provided me with so much care, comfort and surprisingly laughter that what could have been a very nervy time as I was on my own was in fact a really positive and supportive experience. Mr Awad had an exceptional team on the day and not once did I feel nervous. The initial 12 hours of recovery period were hard but I remember Mr Awad saying to me the morning after surgery that by lunchtime I would be feeling so much better, I was nauseous from the anesthetic which was hard to deal with when you've just had surgery on your stomach. Almost to the minute he was right! The nurses were fantastic, they gave me so much help and got on top of the nausea quickly and I went home later that day. I had surgery on Thursday, came home Friday and was back at work on the Monday. The nurses called me daily for two weeks and then monthly thereafter. I know I can text or call them anytime though and they are very quick to respond and are always so helpful and positive. They really are a great team. I've had my first post op check up and I will have my 2nd in a month or 2 and so far everything is text book. This isn't the easy way out for anyone who chooses this route. Personally I'd tried everything before I ended up here and I don't regret my decision for an instant. It's hard to begin with but from week 6 it is so much easier. There were times after surgery when I really did question what I'd done as it is quite challenging to get used to being able to eat such small portions of food and learn how to eat slowly which is mainly what I found so hard. I am now 5 months on from surgery, I've lost over 50lbs and I don't ask those questions anymore. Yes there are days when it is harder than others but I see that as normal, even before surgery I'd have a bad day and this time if it does bother me or if I have a question I know I can call the team and I will get an answer, some advice or simply some support/encouragement on my journey. If you are considering going for this procedure with Mr Awad all I can say is do it, you are in the best hands, you will be treated respectfully, kindly and he has a great team who provide constant support if you need it.
