Mr Siddiqi has been my consultant since having bowel cancer, he is a excellent surgeon and is always open and honest. He explains everything in detail and nothing is to much trouble. If not for his care and support I would not be here now.

Mr Siddiqi is a first rate surgeon. I've now had three major surgeries under his care and I trust him completely. I've had quite a complicated surgical journey and Mr Siddiqi has done everything in his power to make it a smooth a journey as possible. He listens to you and takes into consideration any fears or concerns one might have regarding surgery and fully explains what is involved in each procedure, detailing any risks. His aftercare is excellent too, keeping in touch after the procedure to check that all is going well during the recovery period; as well as liasing with other consultants involved in my care to ensure ensure that it is of the highest standard. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I visited Dr Siddiqi on Tuesday, 21st July, 2015 and found that he was very thorough in his questioning of my symptoms and how they affect me. He went out of his way to ensure that the information I gave him was as comprehensive as possible and did not try to blind me with science when giving his view on what was happening to me. Dr Siddiqi then carried out an examination of my bowel and explained his findings clearly. Every question I raised was answered fully by him and his proposed course of treatment detailed to cover both medication and physical assistance each with a view to stabilizing my condition and bringing about improvement.

Profile

Mr Siddiqi is a Consultant Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital. Within the Department of General Surgery, he is the Lead Surgeon for Pelvic Floor Surgery and Surgical Site Infections.

Since his appointment, he has initiated advanced robotic surgery using the da Vinci robot for pelvic floor conditions and is one of the most experienced surgeons in this type of robotic surgery in the country. Broomfield Hospital is the only centre in Essex performing robotic operations and is a BUPA preferred centre for robotic surgery. This extensive robotic surgical experience has now been used for other colorectal operations including surgery for cancer. Mr Siddiqi has also introduced new and innovative therapies for faecal incontinence and constipation.

Despite his background as a surgeon, Mr Siddiqi has extensive knowledge in medical problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic pain and Pruritus ani (anal itch) without which, he feels, he would not be able to manage complex surgical issues.

He has developed academic links with Anglia Ruskin University and is currently involved in surgical research projects in the fields of colorectal cancer and surgical infections. He is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at the university and is the GI module tutor for the MSc in minimal invasive surgery.

Mr Siddiqi graduated from St. Georges Hospital Medical School, London and later undertook research at the University of London studying methods trying to improve the detection of colorectal cancer spread for which he was awarded a MD thesis. He completed his specialist surgical training in the North East Thames Higher Surgical Training programme. Mr Siddiqi obtained further advanced training in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull and Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand. In Hull, which is a leading pelvic floor centre, he undertook a Pelvic Floor Fellowship. Subsequently, Mr Siddiqi obtained the rare accreditation for Sacral Nerve Stimulation from this unit. In New Zealand, he worked as a Laparoscopic Fellow at a busy innovative unit specialising in keyhole surgery.

He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Robotic Surgery.
