Mr Khan is an exceptionally kind and compassionate doctor and a great listener. His knowledge and expertise are top class. I was referred to Mr Khan's clinic by my GP. I presented with sciatica pain symptoms and suspicion of a pinched nerve in my leg. An initial MRI scan of my spine, arranged by my GP, didn't show any abnormalities. Mr Khan was very attentive during our first appointment, taking notes on my previous health and family history. During this initial consultation, I expressed my concern that my symptoms could be signs of Neurofibromatosis type 2, a rare genetic condition present in my family. Even though my symptoms were not typical for NF2, Mr Khan ordered an extensive MRI of my whole spine and brain to exclude the presence of tumours commonly associated with NF2. Our second appointment took place sometime later after the scan results came back. Unfortunately, Mr Khan had some bad news for me. The scans showed the presence of bilateral acoustic neuromas and other tumours down my spine as well. Mr Khan was very gentle and reassuring during the appointment. He explained I was not anywhere near the surgery stage yet. He promised to sort further referrals with other specialist teams for me in the upcoming months. He took time to make sure I was feeling ok. He was very empathetic. Mr Khan had sought the advice of two other neurosurgeon consultants before he presented me with my diagnosis of NF2. That's because my condition is very rare. This idea of three consultants discussing my case made me feel very well looked after and cared for. I couldn't help thinking how lucky I was to get an early diagnosis, which could have been easily missed. If the need for future surgery arises, I have full confidence in Mr Khan and his skills.
