I am working GP in NHS and I have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma recently, luckily not spread so was operable. I was referred to Mr Robert to George for surgery by Dr Valerio Respiratory consultant at NMH. I felt cared, respected and listened to, by Dr Robert George. I understood he has good knowledge in his own field, he is young, dedicated to his work and he enjoys his work. He made me feel at ease while being professional, structured with his work. He has completed surgery on me, tried to explain while I am in recovery, he met me on the ward during my stay and before discharge. I felt he was available at any step if I needed his help during my care - either personally or email / via phone. He published several papers that made me feel comfortable about his dedication, knowledge and professionalism. He is a good team player, was referring to team effort when I or family was giving him credit. His smile, friendly touch made me feel comfortable.

I am Mrs Farida Rahman’s daughter and have taken the liberty of taking your email address off of my mum’s recent letter from you. You and your team operated on her on the 2nd August. We met at UCLH post my mum’s surgery and on 21 August when you gave us the good news. I don’t think I have the words to thank you and your team enough for the care you provided to my mum and I. My mum’s health has not been great. She was very nervous about her surgery as she did not think she would pull through the operation. The last time my mum was on an operating bed was when she had my brother in 1977. My father, who was an anaesthetist at the hospital put her to sleep. My father’s colleagues delivered my brother. My father died of a sudden heart attack whilst at work in St Anne’s hospital a year later. I was 4 years old and my brother one. Mum brought us up on her own with no family in the UK. She is therefore the equivalent of both parents to us. The care and time afforded to me and my queries by your team I am most grateful for. The professionalism I witnessed has been second to none. The NHS provides an amazing service and I am thankful that professionals like you and your team continue to be part of the system. I too work in the public service industry and am fully aware of pressures from government with constant cost cutting yet your team did not ever let any external pressure show. With the most heartfelt thanks I can possibly send through via an email and with the very best of wishes for the future to you Farhana Rahman-Cook

I met Mr George at the Chest Clinic North Middlesex, where I was seen by Dr Valerio ( with whom I also had a good positive experience ). Mr George clarified the pathology occuring in each of my lungs, explained clearly and succinctly what options I had, the surgery process and the priorities. I was offered surgery, if I was prepared to accept that I had work to do in the process which would involve pain. This honesty and clarity about what would happen and what I had to do, convinced me that surgery performed by Mr George was the right choice. The whole process, from the pre-admission process to the day of the surgery to the anaesthetists to the registrar to the after surgery care, was beyond my expectations. The Westmoreland St Hospital is so well organised. I can't praise it highly enough Whilst I was in the ward, I saw Mr George working with his students, long after the day staff had gone home. He was listening to them, encouraging them. He is passionate about his work, the teaching and the hospital. The result for me is that I feel better than I have felt in many years, both physically and mentally. I was able to pick up my work within 2 weeks of the operation and back in my normal routine ( travel on London transport, carrying equipment) within 4 weeks and my full fitness regime ( gym, running, skipping) within 5 weeks. I know this is because of the quality of the surgery, my expectations and the after care, all clearly set out by Mr George and his team. Taking the option to have the surgery with Mr George is one of the best decisions I have made. It has been truly life enhancing for me. I feel incredibly fortnate
