I was apprehensive about having my surgery from the very beginning and seeing the review previous to mine I was even more nervous. Thankfully my experience at the hands of Mr Skipworth was nothing to worry about. I had seen 2 surgeons previous to him and both left me with little comfort or reassurance about the procedure I was electing to have, it was all matter of fact, lots of risks etc. However on the day of the surgery when I was at my most stressed about it I found speaking to Mr Skipworth much more relaxed and while he re-affirmed the risks he quantified them with how rare they were and how unlikely they were to happen in my case. Needless to say this helped me get through the lead up to going to theatre much easier and all went well. When he was doing his rounds following the surgery I was a little out of it to ask a few questions I had so on leaving hospital I contacted his secretary to ask if he could give me a call. On the day she said he would be back at the hospital sure enough he called and was happy to discuss my procedure and a few other points regarding my case, very happy about that! I think the problem with all suregons is that their confidence in what theyre doing comes across as arrogance when we start asking, what must seem to them, daft questions. I must admit I did have some reservations about him being young compared to the big guns of the surgical team. But then I considered that a laproscopic procedure requires a different mindset to traditional surgery and that someone who's grown up with games consoles and trained in those procedures from medical school might just be a good choice and I'm glad to say I wasn't wrong. As for my post-surgery healing, everything has closed up quickly and cleanly and I reckon scarring will be minimal and disappear fast. If youre due to have surgery under Mr Skipworth I truely believe you are in good hands.
