I was referred to Dr Baker through my healthcare provider. During a fall I suffered a ruptured ligament in my thumb. Dr Baker was quick to diagnose and thoroughly explained the procedure required, the risks and recovery. Making appointments was easy with his efficient secretaries and five days later I was in surgery. Dr Baker and the surgical team made me feel at ease. Cast 1 was on for a week then a follow up appointment to check healing. The wound was very neat and healing well. Dr Baker replaced the cast with Cast 2. 3 weeks later and back to the Spire for cast removal and then onto a thumb splint for 4 weeks. A long road ahead to full recovery but I'm so glad to have found Dr Baker and would highly recommend.

After several year of increasing pain from Osteoarthritis of the PIP joint on my ring finger I decided to see what options were available to me. My GP suggested a plastic surgeon would be best given the fingers bones are small and delicate. I met Mr. Richard Baker the following week. My hand was X-rayed Mr Baker explained the various options of treatment available to me. It was clear that a joint replacement was my best option and the Mr.Baker was clear about the different varieties and the pros and cons of each replacement joint. Based on his experience and his patients results we agreed on a silicon joint replacement. A week later I had the surgery done at the Spire Thames Valley Hospital. I was offered a local general anaesthetic or a general. I decided on a general. I'm a private patient and I was booked in at 12pm the following week. The surgery was over before I know it and I was home before 5pm that evening. I did receive a local anaesthetic at the site of the joint and that pain relief lasted well through the night and into the next day. In the following days I took OTC medication of ibuprofen and this was sufficient to manage the post operative pain, which was very slight. The pain from the joint was completely gone immediately. I write this review six weeks after surgery and the scar is healing well and movement of the new joint is progressing as explained with the help of physiotherapy. My pain is completely gone and I'm feeling very happy as a result. Mr Baker is a gently spoken Surgeon, who immediately set me at ease and I felt very safe being under his care. I would like to recommend Mr. Baker to carry out any surgery you may require. The Thames Spire is also a great, friendly hospital to have surgery carried out. Jo

Mr Baker listens to what you have to say and asks how you feel. He explained my options and I chose to have a 3rd operation as I was in so much pain with hardly any movement in my thumb and forefinger. I will be for ever grateful to the Occupational Therapist Krissy who asked Mr Baker to see me. I had 2 previous operations for carpal tunnel, Mr Baker repaired the damage from the first operation that had been preformed by orthopaedics. ( First and second operations were by Orthopaedics) He showed me photos of the damage and how he had repaired the nerve, he is a very skilled surgeon and would recommend him to anyone that needed a carpal tunnel procedure. My hand is now so much better than it was before I had my last surgery in July 2022. It will take a long time to recover, but I am now on the road to recovery after a very long year.
