I was referred to Mr Radu Popa by another surgeon who arranged for an MRI scan of my lumbar region, because I had quite wrongly thought my problem was with my right hip. On reviewing the MRI scan Mr Popa very quickly advised I had severe L4/L5 spinal canal stenosis. Mr Popa decided to arrange for a right L5 nerve root injection to see if this would alleviate the problem. However, this did not help and after a telephone conversation Mr Popa said the only course of action would be for decompression surgery and that he would put me on his list at Spire. Unfortunately, Covid 19 arrived and all elective care surgery was delayed. Mr Popa was very professional and fully understood how much pain I was in, so much so he kept in touch with me by telephone consultation every month to see how I was. His care and attention for his patients is second to none and by his friendly approach makes you feel so important. He finally arranged for the procedure to take place in July 20 when Spire opened again for elective care surgery. On arriving at the hospital he very quickly called to see me on the ward and fully explained the procedure and introduced me to his anaesthetist, a young lady called Zoe who again took the time and care to explain fully how her part would be played. I am now at home three weeks later and without the chronic pain I had for nearly twelve months. Mr Popa has given me my life back and I can only recommend him 100% to anybody requiring decompression surgery.
