I had 100% confidence in Mr Popa from my first appointment with him. He has a very professional, polite, no nonsense attitude, very honest and trustworthy. Every single person I came into contact with in Spire had only good words to say about working with him and they said that if they were to have my operation they would want Mr Popa to perform it. I was terrified beforehand but I was put at ease by the attitude of all the staff I came into contact with.

Mr Popa diagnosed my back and right leg pain problem following his consultation with me and an MRI scan. He openly and clearly mapped out the options for me both immediate and those should his initial recommendation not resolve my pain. He performed a nerve root injection on 16 December, which within hours had completely taken the pain away. A month later I am still pain free and delighted that I am now able to do my normal daily routines without the debilitating effect of the pain. Would highly recommend Mr Popa

In August this year I received spinal surgery in the form of a lumbar microdisectomy carried out by Dr Popa. This was a sport related injury which had become debilitating to my life including work and exercise, which I found to be a real struggle. I can now say that following the procedure performed by Dr Popa, I am fully recovered and through his expertise on the subject I feel as if I’ve been granted a new lease of life, returning to my regular active lifestyle, of which I’ve also felt the benefits mentally. Outside of the surgery itself, even during the consultation stage I always felt I was receiving the best care and advice I could, he was very informative on the subject and was able to regularly offer his opinion and advice on something which I was very inexperienced and unsure, but I certainly found his knowledge reassuring and when presented with two options on how to proceed with my injury, either via steroid injection or surgery. He was able to detail the perceived pros and cons of both methods to me clearly, helping me to reach a decision without uncertainty. I also want to give thanks to Dr Popa’s team and the surrounding staff at the Spire Hospital in Liverpool, as throughout this process the care I received was excellent including the physiotherapists, anaesthesiologists and nurses, all of which were extremely attentive throughout. Despite it being a difficult time, the treatment I received from him and the team made this a really positive experience. Thank you again. Kind regards, Scott Foster

Having been in pure agony with sciatica on my right side for about 12 months Mr Popa advised an MRI scan of lower back which he then diagnosed as Spinal Canal Stenosis and took the time to explain all the options open to me and their consequences and outcomes. I opted for the Decompression Surgery, I had a consent review with Mr Popa who carefully explained the percentage of problems that could occur during surgery which seemed minimal compared with the pain being suffered. Surgery took place on 10th October and was a complete success, I am now at last free from that sciatic pain is totally unbelievable and it has given me a new lease of life and am at last looking forward to the future, walks, holidays and just being able to get out and about. I would highly recommend Mr Popa and his surgical team and all the nursing staff at the Spire Hospital in Liverppol.
