I recently had bilateral breast reduction surgery with Mr Turton at Leeds St James’ Hospital. I had previous surgery due to a-symmetry and abnormal development secondary to Primary Ovarian Failure, which impacted my mental health as a young girl/woman. The NHS performed bilateral breast implants when I was 21 yrs old. (almost 22 yrs ago) Over recent years I have developed hardening, swelling and fluid and been experiencing a great deal of pain and discomfort from my right breast and under arm pitt. I have also had many skin rashes on my chest and arms, and multiple health problems and symptoms including cognitive issues, which seemed to get a lot worse with covid-19 infection. I was diagnosed with long covid and it seemed I was having immune over reactions/ response. At the same time my right breast was becoming more problematic. I started thinking it was to do with the implants and started the process for removal on the NHS. I was told I had Grade 4 capsular construction and the capsules needed to be removed, but the NHS would only remove part of the capsule and there was a very long wait. I knew leaving any of the capsule to be unsafe and a higher risk of problems down the line. I knew I needed it to all be removed as an ‘en bloc’ procedure and tested for BIA ALCL and I I needed to find a good NHS surgeon who would take this seriously. I did my own research and was given Mr Phillip Turton as a strong recommendation so I asked my GP for a referral to him at St James’ Hospital. I can’t fault the service or whole experience from this point. I was accepted via fast track referral by my GP for breast screening and seen within one week and operated on 12 days later. I do not live in Leeds, and asked my GP for a second opinion as was not getting anywhere with my own local hospital in Chester. Mr Turton certainly lived up to his reputation. He was very kind and caring and had a lovely bedside manner. He gave me the time I needed to express my concerns and worries. He was very knowledgeable and thorough, explaining everything to me (and my husband) and no question was too much. He was also very reassuring. His expertise and specialist interest in this area impressed us (and we had seen three other surgeons about this). I am delighted with the results and can’t thank Mr Turton and his lovely, very helpful secretary Audrey enough. She passed on information to him prior to my appt to save time during the appt and answered any questions precand post surgery. I was looked after by the hospital staff and had all round great care. Fortunately, my pathology results came back fine and seemed to be inflammation! I am just so relieved to have the implants out and have definitely seen some health benefits already. Mr Turton listened and cared when no one else would. He could see how the implants were impacting my life and health. He removed fully and safely and tested appropriately. I’m forever grateful. Wonderful professional surgeon….Cannot praise him enough.

Recently had breast reduction performed by Dr Turton. I cannot express enough my gratitude to this gentleman. The first time I met Dr Turton I thought he was a bit special however I now know he is not a bit special but hugely special . Highly skilled at what he does, he is a credit to our amazing health service. I will be eternally grateful to this man for quite honestly changing my life. My breast were very large for my frame and I was very embarrassed by them. I stopped going to the gym, swimming etc . It was too painful to do this due to my breast. I had always taken care of myself, ate healthy food, didn’t drink, smoke etc but had become sedentary because of this. As a consequence I put on nearly two stone . This impacts on one’s life if you have never been this way. Dr Turton got it straight away and talked me through what he could do. He also pointed out what could go wrong so I was fully informed. I did not watch any footage of this surgery before hand as I did not want to be put off. On the day of my surgery I arrived in the morning, was seen by other relevant medics who also by the way were fantastic and then Dr Turton. I was completely at ease despite never having anesthetic before I had no doubt. I woke up with what I can only describe as the best pair of boobs I have ever seen on somone my age, they are amazing and I still go to bathroom to look at them because I can’t believe they are mine. All the work of this amazing surgeon and his team. If I could give this man a present to say Thank-you an Island would not be enough. I am now walking Long distances again exercising and have lost 12 lb already. Thank-you, Thank you, Thank you Dr Turton. If anyone is considering this type of surgery this is the man to do it. Frankly fantastic x

I had ruptured textured silicone implants, more than 20yrs old & all the symptoms of BII, Mr Turton was the only one of three (top/recommended) surgeons who didn’t dismiss my concerns. I was offered NHS explant with simple rinse out, NHS advice was wait six months after explant then private capsulectomy if I wanted. I’m aged 66, had made my decision not to replace the implants & saw no reason to have two operations when it could be done in one. In July 2022 I had removal of (badly ruptured) implants, capsulectomy en bloc & lift, with necessary lab tests. I was in Nuffield Leeds one night. I didn’t need any pain meds, drains out & discharged next day. My only one regret is that I should’ve done it sooner! Mr Turton cares. He listens. I’ve since learned he’s the only surgeon in the North who believes in BII With implants I was dd/e, I’m now c cup which is better than my pre implant a/b cup. It’s truly a joy to NOT have to wear tight supportive bras, it’s made such a difference to my chronic shoulder & neck pain. Thankfully all labs were clear. Scars are minimal & fading, all thanks to Mr Turton.

I was Diagnosed with BIA- ALCL so had to have Bilateral Removal of Breast Implants and Capsulectomy and Mastopexy, Dr Turton was recommended to me by a previous patient of his. I am so glad she did, Dr Turton is very knowledgeable about this rare condition and also very caring and considerate to your feelings. I am now 6 months on from the operation and feeling great and Dr Turton is still seeing me to make sure I am ok physically and mentally which is a great testament to his caring nature. I have been left with minimal scarring due to his expertise in this procedure.

I had breast reduction surgery with Mr Turton in April, and I can't begin to describe how lifechanging it has been. I've always felt embarrassed by my chest since my teens. I was never able to wear the clothes I wanted, they were a nuisance during exercise, I hated the attention they received, and I was in daily discomfort with back, neck and shoulder pain. I had tried to manage them for years, believing I could learn to live them. Yet no matter how slim I was, nor how much exercise I did or how good a bra I wore, they only got bigger and more uncomfortable. They had even started to sag well below my waist. They made me feel so much older than twenty-eight! Before my consultation I was unsure whether I should go ahead. Thankfully Mr Turton put me completely at ease. He really listened to my motivations behind surgery and gave me a clear idea of what to expect, helped by 3D imaging. He was so reassuring, and it was a relief to know I wasn't being superficial or silly, and he could make a significant difference. After the consultation I knew for sure I was going ahead. If you are undecided, definitely book a consultation with Mr Turton. It's money well spent and will give you peace of mind whatever your decision. With regards to the surgery itself, he listened to all my requests and got the size and shape spot on. I went from a 34G to a 34D and I'm so impressed by the breast lift as well as the reduction. It's changed my body shape; I look in proportion and the surgery has revealed a waist that was previously obscured. Him and his lovely nurse Geri, guided me throughout and I felt so safe and well looked after. Post-surgery, the relief was immediate. I didn't realise how much I was minimising my pain before on a daily basis. The surgery has allowed me to shed years of emotional baggage and so many friends have noticed how much happier and more confident I am. I couldn't have asked for a better experience nor better care. It's been the best investment I've ever made.
