Professor Cristian Ilie is an outstanding practitioner. In addition to his expertise in conducting my partial nephrectomy in 2022, he demonstrates real empathy - and humility. I found it difficult to reconcile the need to remove - in my case part of an organ - before knowing if the tumour on it was carcinogenic or not! He was at my bedside after the procedure, showing me 'the beast' on his iPhone. It certainly looked pretty evil - but was fortunately, a Stage 2, clear-cell carcinoma. Not the most lethal. When he heard that subsequently another non synchronous tumour on my bowel was discovered, missed by a general CT scan, he told me how sorry I was that I had to go through a second, procedure. That meant a great deal. He is a genuine, lovely human being and deserves his professorship. On the academic side, he is extremely well researched and published. Professor Cristian Ilie now at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich where I saw him.

I was seen by Mr Ilie at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and found him to be so reassuring compassionate and understanding at a time when I was feeling very anxious. I saw him again at a follow up appointment and again his courteous manner and respect for his patient was outstanding something I have not seen before in such a senior clinician. I would highly recommend this doctor he is amazing.
