Was very rude to me and wouldn’t treat me further as believed I was too young for a hip replacement and said I needed to live a sedentary life and deal with pain. Since found several other surgeons who seemed more positive about the outlook and were able to provide me with care. This surgeon was rude and did understand the mental side to my diagnosis. My next surgeon told me my first surgery by this surgeon was poorly done and had it been done properly to start it may not have led to my hip replacement age 36.

I had a total hip replacement at Watford hospital almost a year ago. I started having pain in my groin very soon after. I reported this and was told to wait for my first follow up with my surgeon - he dismissed my concerns stating early days - wait another 6 weeks - 6 weeks later I was still the same - I returned was told again its early days. I returned again a few weeks later to explain my concerns including pain and that my hip has less movement than before the operation. Mr W Jones was dismissive, had no empathy and left me feeling totally let down. He especially did not like to asked direct questions concerning specific medical conditions post op that I had read about which cause the same symptoms. He was not forthcoming or helpful and had a 'there is nothing wrong with my work attitude'. I went to my GP who sent me for a second opinion. A CT scan has revealed I have Iliopsoas impingement which is not an easy fix and caused by the surgery. If Mr W Jones had taken my concerns at face value and investigated the pain in my groin which I understand is indicative of Iliopsoas impingement and a direct result of the surgery I would not be writing this review.

I had a Hip Arthroscopy with Dr Whittingham-Jones 1st April 2019 at Spire Harpenden. He listened to me fully, and gave me the options without pushing me one way or the other. He managed my expectations of surgery, recovery and beyond very well. I really have nothing bad to say.

Its almost a year since my total knee replacement.Mr Whittingham-Jones was honest and showed humility as I was absolutely petrified about the surgery. Yes its a painful procedure but with the care and encouragement I received I am recovering well. I would most definitely recommend PWJ!

So he clearly knows his stuff, but he also incorrectly led me to believe that I would be in constant pain for the rest of my life and was really blasé and even a little callous about it. Maybe he's a poor communicator; maybe he's just one of those doctors who hears "young female, in pain" and glazes over. Either way - I'd still recommend him, but don't be afraid to ask him to clarify what he means or get a second opinion.
