I could not have been more grateful for the time Mr Thorpe took to hear my story, my concerns, examine me and carefully discuss the options available with pros and cons for each. In the end, he felt surgery was not needed and his explanation made perfect sense which gave me absolute confidence in his assessment. I can totally understand why others speak so highly of him and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others.

At all times Mr Thorpe was excellent. Unlike some other surgeons he doesn't seem to rush to get you into an operating theatre to do something to you. He takes a lot of time to explain the options, look at all the scans and do an examination - more than you can get from a lot of doctors who see you online at present!! It was really interesting to hear that scans don't always show exactly what is wrong to cause back pain I decided to have a procedure and it went very well. My leg pain is gone. My back pain hasn't gojne, but Mr Thorpe was careful to tell me that the procedure wouldn't treat that before I went for it. I am now back at work, playing sport, and can live with the pain I have left. I feel like I hav emy life back!!

Following a prolonged period of discomfort in my arms, feet and legs, loss of balance and strength, I elected to have an anterior cervical decompression and disc replacement in C3/4 to C5/6 inclusive. I had 3 consultations with Mr Thorpe leading up to the decision to have the operation. Mr Thorpe took all the time I needed to explain the cause of my symptoms and potential solutions. From the outset I felt in safe, experienced hands, which was important to me leading up to the operation. As I write this I am 10 days post operation and can feel my energy levels back , the discomfort in my arms and legs have gone, and my balance and strength have returned. My thanks go out to Mr Thorpe and to the wonderful staff at the Nuffield Taunton Hospital for their superb care.

Mr Thorpe operated on my spine on 9 October 2014. After the op I was in hospital for nearly 4 weeks and he regularly came to see me. Looking back I feel so grateful that it was him that performed the surgery. The op lasted for 7 hours and I believe that it was an extremely difficult operation and clearly a huge responsibility for him as it was performed so close to my spinal chord. Since then I have made super progress, no longer experiencing horrendous back pain. I can now touch my toes with straight legs. Mr Thorpe came across to me not only as an extremely competent surgeon but as a very kind man, working so hard to provide his patients with the very best treatment, courtesy and compassion. He is a wonderful example of the brilliant staff in Musgrove Hospital and I feel very priviledged that he was my surgeon Ann Adamson

I was in a very difficult place when I first met with Paul Thorpe.I had been in severe pain for nine months, had various unsuccessful interventions and my condition was rapidly deteriorating. From being a very active person I was unable to walk without the aid of a stick and just about able to take care of myself at home. Mr Thorpe took time to explain my condition and gave me a full explanation of the options available. When discussing surgery he explained what to expect, the intended benefits as well as the risks. All was explained in such a kind, caring, reassuring and professional manner, which I so appreciated as I was at an all time low. I decided to go ahead with surgery a degenerative scoliosis correction with instrumental fusion & revision decompression, and this took place three weeks ago. I can't thank Paul Thorpe and his team enough for giving me the best individual care possible. I am now on the road to recovery and quite amazed as to how I am doing. I am aware it is early days yet, but having been given the chance by the amazing skills of Paul Thorpe I will do everything I can to work towards a full recovery.
