A few months after turning 26 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. After IVF and chemo treatment, I was fortunate enough to be operated on by Dr. Paul Therachelvam. I decided to go with a mastectomy with an implant breast reconstruction, as well as a LYMPHA surgery that could reduce my chances of getting lymphoedema in the future. During my cancer treatment, I was enormously impressed by the professionalism, empathy, and efficiency of the NHS, and Dr. Paul was no exception. He has not just saved my life together with Dr. Rizki and Dr. Williams, but made me look even better than before. After 9 hours of surgery, he made time to inform my partner re the progress of the surgery and over the following days he followed up with check ups on me. Regarding scarring, they appear to be very minimal, especially under the breast - looking like just a scratch. Overall, recovery felt pretty fast (even though I managed to get covid from my lovely family). Many thanks to Dr. Paul’s nurse Ola who brilliantly assists him and removed my drains a week after surgery. She has great knowledge, experience, and empathy! Throughout the process, I felt that I could fully trust Dr. Paul to represent my best interests during the surgery and do a top notch job :) Thank you very much and I can’t recommend you enough for anyone who is unfortunate to have cancer but fortunate to get to be operated on by you!

It became clear very quickly to me that I would be in good hands with Mr Thiruchelvam. All my appointments were as scheduled and very professional. The plan for my treatment was clear and organised efficiently. I was informed of all the details at every stage with the ability to ask questions. Mr Thiruchelvam is approachable, friendly and reassuring whilst also being clear and concise. Once I reached the day of my surgery, everything was handled efficiently but with care shown for my feelings as well. I was able to go home the same day and needed no pain killers as a result of the surgery. The healing process has been very smooth and the precision of the incision/wound is amazing and done in a most careful and sympathetic way to give me confidence for the future. Thank you very much to Mr Thiruchelvam and all his team for his expertise, skill and care.

I am two weeks post surgery following a lumpectomy and removal of two lymph nodes, carried out by Paul Thiruchelvam. Since the diagnosis of my tumour, I have had simply the best possible care from Paul and his amazing team. Every question has been answered, every option explained and all with such kind understanding that a cancer diagnosis is a scary thing, and questions that seem quite trivial can loom very large. Paul is incredibly skilled, utterly professional and committed. His attention to detail to ensure the best possible aesthetic result is very reassuring and he is friendly and approachable which is so key. He has a fabulous team and they work as a whole. I cannot thank them enough for the all-encompassing nature of their treatment. His two assistants Amelia and Helen have been a godsend with their friendly reassuring phone calls and their time given at the hospital. Neil the amazing radiologist who rushed through my biopsy late on a Friday so I wouldn’t have to wait so long for my results, with Sara his lovely assistant. Suffice it to say - if you need treatment and surgery for breast cancer, I cannot recommend Paul and his team highly enough.

Paul is wonderful. He listened to my worries and answered many questions. I never felt that what I was asking was wrong or silly. At every stage he took my opinions about my treatment into account and advocated for me to ensure that I had the best possible team around me. No one ever wants to hear that they have cancer, but should you find yourself facing the unthinkable, Paul is absolutely the guy you want on your team.

It's taken me a while to write this review because I've found it difficult to put into words what Mr. Paul Thiruchelvam and his team at King Edward VII Hospital have done for me... and as a professional writer, that's tough to admit! A few months ago, I found a lump in my breast and asked my GP for a referral to a breast specialist. It turned out that the lump was just a cyst, but in the course of the investigation, another smaller cancer was discovered. Given its size and depth, it's unlikely I would have found the tumour on my own for some time; and the NHS wouldn't otherwise have caught it so early, as I don't yet qualify for routine mammograms. In the moment of diagnosis, I felt like the luckiest of unlucky people. I plodded along through the NHS system, but was concerned that things were being missed at my local hospital. I spent a lot of time poring over medical journals to be sure I was asking the right questions. That's when I decided to go to London for a second opinion from Mr. Thiruchelvam. Within minutes of meeting him, I knew he was the right surgeon for me. Although I had been diagnosed weeks earlier, he was the first person to explain in detail the characteristics of my breast cancer, and the treatment options available to me. I felt intense relief as I knew that whatever the future held, I'd be in excellent hands. I ended up having a lumpectomy, in addition to a mammoplasty (breast reduction and lift) on the non-cancerous side. The results are extraordinary. Mr. Thiruchelvam is both a surgeon and an artist. My margins were clean, and my lymph nodes are clear of cancer. I also look great. This may seem like an inconsequential concern when one is battling something as grave as cancer, but it is an important consideration, as the patient must live happily in their body after treatment is over. I am grateful that Mr. Thiruchelvam pays as much attention to aesthetics as he does to the surgical treatment of cancer. Like any practitioner, Mr. Thiruchelvam is only as good as the team around him. With this in mind, I'd like to mention his anaesthetist, Dr. Massimiliano Guglielmi, and the pain consultant, Dr. Matt Brown--both of whom ensured my surgery was as easy and painless as possible. Also, Mr. Thiruchelvam's two nurses, Ms. Helen Froyd and Ms. Amelia Cook, checked up on me constantly and took time to answer all my questions. And the radiologist Dr. Neil Upadhyay and his assistants, Fiona and Sara, helped compassionately with the mammograms and multiple biopsies, and always kept me chatting and laughing through what would otherwise have been a very scary experience. Last, but not least, I'd like to thank Mr. Thiruchelvam's PA, Ms. Michelle Wright, who shoehorned me into a complicated schedule and kept everything running smoothly and on time. I cannot recommend Mr. Thiruchelvam and his team enough to anyone who finds themselves an unwilling member of the "breast cancer club."
