A life changing experience! I had a long standing problem with compressed discs in my cervical spine resulting in near on paralysis in my legs. I had a consultation with Patrick McKenna and felt completely at ease with his advice. Patrick showed complete empathy with my situation and made me feel totally at ease with what the procedure involved and the realistic prospects of recovery thereafter. I have never had an operation before and was naturally nervous but from the moment I came round, from the general anaesthetic, I was blown away by the result and the fact that apart from a sore throat (like a bad cold) I had no pain. Within 24hrs I was up walking and received exceptional aftercare. Just over two weeks on, I’m now walking well and working on leg strengthening exercises which improve matters on a daily basis. I feel a completely different person to the one who was wheel chaired into surgery and feel blessed to have my mobility back. Patrick is an exceptional surgeon and a lovely man, with a wonderful team around him including his incredibly helpful Medical Secretary Claire. I would highly recommend him to anybody considering back surgery.

Mr. McKenna performed a L3/4 XLIF on me a year ago this week at the London Clinic. At my very first consultation Patrick took the time to listen to my story before referring to the scans/x-rays and then went on to explain the condition of my spine and the reason for my symptoms. Patrick was thorough in his explanation of the possible options/solutions. His manner and confidence was very reassuring as the prospect of spinal surgery can be quite daunting. Patrick has always been highly professional throughout, while adding a warmth and humour to what has been a big event in my life. In simple terms he is just a great guy. After seeing 2 other consultants that told me there was no surgical solution to my chronic lower back pain i was feeling pretty hopeless. Patrick Mc Kenna was recommended to me and i can honestly say it was the best recommendation i have ever received. He was empathetic, confident and concise. He clearly laid out my options and discussed the pros and cons of each. He gave an honest review of my situation and gave me realistic expectations about the recovery and the overall outcome. Unlike the other surgeons that i had seen there was no ambiguity in what he said and I left my initial consultation with him completely confident that I was going to feel better. I am now 8 weeks post op having had an anterior lumbar disc replacement and there have been no surprises at all. All of my pre-op pain has gone and i am well on the road to recovery. I would have no hesitation in recommending this consultant and am extremely grateful for the care i have received during and since my surgery.

Patrick literally gave me my life back, he is straight talking but empathetic and honest , I wouldn't trust any one else with my life as I do with Patrick, 2 years of pain and failed pain reliving procedures with other surgeons, Patrick worked his magic and the moment I woke up I had the use of my left toes back immediately and mynpins and needles where gone. Any one looking at spinal fusion especially in your early 30's like me, when others scare you and refuse to do anything, the only advice I can give is talk to Patrick and get your life back. The London Clinic was great too, fantastic staff and great care.
