I cannot praise this surgeon enough, I have suffered for many years with arthritic hips and at the age of 44, classed as a “young patient” I was very nervous that this was the right option for me but Mr Jaiswal was/is a fantastic man ! From the very first time I saw him and my issues were discussed, I knew that I was in the best hands possible. All aspects of the operation were explained to me so I was made to feel like I mattered. Mr Jaiswal was also very considerate when carrying out the operation, taking great care to preserve a memorial tattoo I have of my Mum. I was “awake” for the op and I would definitely recommend it - what an experience, I also feel that my recovery time has been quicker - I went in on the Thursday afternoon and was home on the Saturday afternoon. Amazing care on Sarah ward too.

Response from Mr Parag Jaiswal

It was pleasure seeing you yesterday 6 weeks following your hip replacement. You are doing incredibly well at this early stage and it was particularly pleasing to see your scar has healed so well through you tattoo. Thank you for your cup cakes. They were delicious!

I have been a patient of Guys Hospital since around age 25, I am now 54. I have had four hip replacements in total and a left knee, plus various steroid interventions for my back. Mr Jaiswal became my surgeon last year following the departure of Mr Nunn. I was admitted as an emergency having fallen and broken a hip prosthesis right across the top. I was cautious about this surgery, the surgical team were clearly very motivated to take on this unusual and exciting procedure and had to acquire specific equipment in order to be able to do it. They had several plans in place on how to approach it. Mr Jaiswal is the most approachable and caring surgeon I have ever had. He listens to your worries and actually adapts his approach to take into consideration your concerns. I had lived with one leg longer than the other for the past decade following my last hip surgery which was playing havoc with my back and feet. When Mr Jaiswal told me that he would have to make my 'new' leg slightly longer than the other to prevent dislocation, I told him that he absolutely had to avoid this at all costs, as this leg was already the longer one. Not only did Mr Jaiswal manage to adhere to my wishes, I was up and walking bearing full weight through my new hip the following morning. The surgery and care were not without complication, but you seriously could not be in better or more responsible hands than those of this rising orthopaedic star.

I had a total hip replacement 6 weeks ago. As a “young hip” patient (45years old), I was on the fast recovery programme. I was impressed with Mr Jaiswal from the moment I met him in clinic. He was friendly, did a thorough examination, explained the process and responded to my questions. The pre-op process was smooth and efficient, and - despite a delay due to last minute cancellation due to bed pressures - the surgery very smooth and successful too. Mr Jaiswal saw me after the procedure and reassured me, and I only stayed one night in hospital. I have since commenced physio, and have had my 6 week review in fracture clinic. I’m no longer using crutches and am back at work. I can walk easily. The post operative recovery has been so easy, most people can’t believe I have had surgery. MrJaiswal saw me in clinic and his manner was equally friendly and helpful. He explained the prognosis and likely speed of recovery. His “bedside manner” is great, and I genuinely believe he cares and remembers the details of his patients. I left feeling reassured and full of confidence for the physio rehab. I was shocked to need a hip replacement at my age, but feel lucky that he was my consultant in terms of the patient experience. He has empathy and has a clear way of explaining options, and engaging you in the decision making process about the operation and care. I observed that he had good and professional relationships with the nursingery and therapies teams. Having a hip replacement is not like a consumer review, like for a car, or a holiday, but my experience of Mr Jaiswal and the team at Guys and St Thomas’ was excellent from start to finish. The clinical outcome is excellent, and he’s a really nice and friendly person too.

Mr Jaiswal replaced my left hip nearly seven weeks ago. A member of his team replaced my right hip 18 months ago very successfully . I was so impressed by Mr Jaiswal that when my left hip became very painful I knew that I wanted to be cared for by him. He wasted no time and arranged for X-rays and then pre operative assessment to be done as soon as I came for an appointment. I was so grateful that he made things seem so straightforward. When I came for my left hip operation Mr Jaiswal did the operation himself. He was friendly and reassuring in theatre both before and after the operation. He told me how well it had gone and what a stable joint I now have. He visited me several times on the ward during the two days I was an inpatient. He supported and encouraged me to have follow up physiotherapy which I have found most helpful in ensuring a speedy recovery. At my follow up appointment he checked the X-rays and asked me relevant questions and gave me plenty of opportunities to ask questions. I have been really impressed by Mr Jaiswal every time we have met and am so grateful to have been given the chance to walk without pain and resume all the activities I enjoy. I was also impressed by the high standard of nursing care I received at Guys and the kindness of the physiotherapists. The pharmacist was also very efficient. All the relevant medication was assembled and locked in my locker drawer the night before I was due be discharged so that there were no hold ups on discharge. Great team work. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Jaiswal to anyone with hip problems.

When I first met Mr Jaiswal in the outpatients department at Guys he heard that I had been dieting and had lost 2 stone in weight. He got up from his chair and came over to me to shake my hand and congratulate me. He was extremely courteous. He discussed the operation with me taking time to talk to me and explained everything in simple English that I was able to understand. When I arrived in the operating theatre I could see Mr Jaiswal talking to his team in a relaxed friendly way and this helped a great deal to give me confidence. At my post op assessment Mr Jaiswal was very caring. My operation as been a great success and I admire Mr Jaiswal greatly as a surgeon and as a person.
