I would like to thank Mr Oladimeji Olowu the amazing surgeon who operated on me on the 15th June 2020 to remove a giant ovarian cyst. He was very compassionate and really listened to me and promised to do his best to only remove the cyst and my right ovary leaving my womb and left ovary intact but he was also very clear that it might not be possible as it would all depend on what he found once he opened me up. I was in such bad condition when I was admitted that Mr Olowu could not properly examine me until I was sedated so he was unable to tell me in advance whether I would be undergoing keyhole or open surgery but he explained what each option would entail and patiently answered all of my questions. In theatre Mr Olowu decided that it was necessary to perform open surgery on me and he made the smallest possible incision across my bikini line, roughly 5 inches. Unfortunately, he discovered a second cyst on my left ovary and was forced to remove both of my ovaries. I wasn’t upset about this change of plan because Mr Olowu had prepared me for this possibility before I went to theatre. I realise it’s early days, it is only two and a half weeks since my operation but I feel fantastic all the incontinence and other cyst related issues have gone and I have got my life back. I would really recommend Mr Olowu to anyone suffering from ovarian cysts, he is a fantastic gynaecologist.

Excellent dr and personally called back on phone when required. Unfortunately he has gone from East Surrey Hospital and I have been left in the lurch without being given the guidance I require. Was not given HRT after my hysterectomy and the eventual prescribed HRT is not available. Going to and from Drs to hospital without answers and no HRT which I urgently need. Shouldn’t have been described HRT by alternative gynaecologist as this hasn’t been available for over a year and doesn’t look likely until 2020. Where do I go from here. Communication and follow ups should be of the utmost importance and patients should have easy contact after surgery. No-one seems to answer the extension number given when trying to get advice.
