After attending Emergency Department in Northampton on Monday with a suspected partial tear to my Achilles Dr Shannak has looked at my notes and diagnosed a sprain. How is it that consultants can dismiss what could be a life changing event as a sprain. After training for 2 half marathons and running countless miles to being unable to walk I am extremely disappointed with the service given
Please get in touch with the fracture clinic to arrange a review if you have ongoing issues. All patients presenting to the emergency department with a musculoskeletal injury are automatically referred to the virtual fracture clinic and the treatment plan is based on the information provided on the referral. You would have been advised to contact the clinic if you felt the assessment was inaccurate or if you had ongoing issues so I would urge you to do so.
Mr Shannak took on board that the most important factor in my complex total knee replacement was the functionality of my knee; for it to be as robust, reliable and flexible as possible within the constraints of the operation - that I was not unduly concerned about the ‘cosmetic’ outcome of my procedure. He made sure the fixings were specific to my particularly degraded knee - there had been a lot of internal deterioration to my natural knee and I am grateful that the replacement knee was the best fit possible.
I was also thrilled that he managed to straighten out the severe angle to which my leg below the knee had become deformed.
I would also like to mention and thank Mr Shannak’s secretary Sue Kirton who always handled any contact and appointments at the hospital with the utmost professionalism.
Mr Shannak is a superb doctor and surgeon, my knee replacement went unbelievably well, has healed beautifully and the attention given by Mr Shannak is second to none.
After suffering a sports related injury a year ago that stopped me from being active and healthy, I was initially very reluctant to have surgery on my knee but this was the only option if I wanted to return to a similar level of fitness.
I was initially refered to Mr Shannak and he carefully talked us throught the damage seen on the MRI, what it meant, the options I had and the risks associated both short and long term. All the way through the consultations and in the meetings before the operation he listened and answered any questions I had.
After the operation he checked on how I was feeling, explained what they had found during the operation and what was done to fix the problems caused by the injury. Having had previous operations for injuries, this was the best experience with the team at Three Shires helping me feel comfortable and at ease every step of the way, even the food was better than served on some of the more respected long haul airlines. In and out within 12 hours was a relief and I was back to light duties and work within a week.
Final consultation with Mr Shannak earlier today and we discussed the physio I had been given, the rehab exercises and how I was feeling using the knee 6 weeks after the operation, finally we talked about the next steps to recovery - The day to day pain and discomfort has gone and now I know my limitations but getting back to being healthy and active again wouldn't have been possible without the amazing help given by Mr Shannak and the Team at Three Shires
I had a partial knee replacement in October I was treated extremely well by this surgeon not only did he listen to me on my initial consultation he is very attentive and always gives you total details of what he feels is the best way forward I feel totally confident in his care. Thank you for what you have done for me
