I have recently had a second surgery with Mr Orpen. The first was a spinal fusion in 2015, and the second a microdiscectomy a couple of months back. Both occasions were a big success thankfully and made a huge difference to my life. I was in so much pain previously. I have always found him incredibly reassuring and have full trust. Due to my eroding discs I know I will possibly need more in the future but I would always want these carried out by Mr Orpen.

I have been suffering lower back pain for 10 years. The NHS at GWH have been absolutely pathetic when it has come to treatment and pain relief. So I bit the Bullet type of thing and made an appointment to see Mr Orpen, Totally different to GWH. He listened to what I told him. Yes he had a few similar ideas that had been tried at GWH Without success I may add. Mr Open's first sally into this area also failed. But he explain why and what they had learnt from this, Now he is going to try a different way of stopping the pain./ Me?? I just hope is is successful. Believe me. constant lower back pain for 10 years. It isn't in any way pleasant . I can assure you of this fact. However, Unlike GWH . Mr Orpen is trying. The new procedure is to be carried out in late Feb this year, 2022. Just hope it works. But I believe Mr Orpen is competent and very knowledgeable when it comes Spinal Problems and injuries'. I have been under the care of Mr. Orpen for 4 years. I have a slipped disk and Mr. Orpen treated in 2015 and 2016 with steroid injections. I had new Mri’s last week and together we have decided to have a microdisectomy. Mr. Orpen spoke to me with respect and gave me all the time I needed to explain to me things in a very clear way, percentage of the operation being successful, recovering times etc. It is just that little extra bit that makes the patient to trust the doctor and to know you are in the right hands.

I have found Mr Neil Orpen very knowledgeable and experienced, he put my mind at ease each time i have seen him, i have had 3 Kyphoplastys that all went very well, and at all times i was kept regularly updated by Neil and the staff at The Ridgeway Hospital, i cannot recommend him or the hospital enough in my experience.

Mr Orpen performed an L4 L5 fusion, with the removal of a large disc bulge one year ago. I can honestly say the sciatica pain went immediately and has never returned. I have my life back, and can only thank Mr Orpen and the staff for everything they did for me.
