In August 2021 my GP in Worcestershire made an orthopaedic referral to Mr Atwal for me due to the pain and mobility issues I was encountering because of osteoarthritis in both my knees. The two operations I had at Cheltenham General Hospital both took place on the dates they were scheduled for, and were less than nine months apart. Now in February 2024 I am the proud owner of two replacement knees! I can confidently say that the treatment and care I received at every level of this process has been exemplary, from the clerical team I spoke to over the phone, right through to the consultant/surgeon, Mr Atwal, the anaesthetists and theatre nurses who performed both operations. The auxiliary staff and nurses in recovery and on the wards, the physiotherapists, x-ray technicians all did their utmost to make me feel comfortable and valued. On both occasions my recovery was remarkably quick and I encountered very limited pain after the initial post-operative period.

Mr Atwal gave me complete confidence for my hip replacement operation twelve months ago. The surgery and subsequent appointments have given me the encouragement to complete the recovery. Mr Navraj Atwal provided clear information about my knee condition, procedure options, recovery timelines and any associated operation risks or risks with doing nothing, which enabled me to form a clear view of what was the best course of action. Mr Atwal was very professional and did put me at ease .I was very unsure what could be done about my knee and was assured that I only need half a knee which I did not no they did. Mr Atwal went through all the pros and cons which does make you think more deeply about having the operation ,but when you are in so much pain and time is precious with age Mr Atwal has made me a new woman. I had my operation at the Nuffield which I had never been in before and feel they need to give you mor information on what you need to take in for after the operation .

Mr Atwal is professional, caring and a superb surgeon, and we had excellent care throughout from both him and his secretary. My daughter’s knee injury had the potential to be severe and career ending (as a dancer) but under his care she is now back to dance and fully recovered.
