Mr Rath performed surgery on my back as I was in pain for 3 years. The operation was a complete success and Mr Rath kept checking on my wellbeing.

I would like to thank Mr Rath and his team at the Walton Centre for the great care and ACDF Level 3 surgery you performed on me.
Words cannot express how grateful I am to Mr Rath, he is a highly experienced and extremely competent neurosurgeon who explains things clearly and is a good listener. On arrival at the Walton Centre on the 6th January 2023 he came to see me, checked on me after surgery and rang the ward at the weekend. The care you receive from this man is unbelievable!! On the Monday morning Mr Rath came with his team to see me and everyone of them acknowledged me and I really appreciated this. I am just over 6 weeks post op and have all the use back in both hands, arm weakness is better and can now walk much better. After being at home for almost 7 months after taking ill in July 2022 with spinning vertigo due to discs herniating on to spinal cord I am now feeling much better and working on my confidence. I feel extremely lucky to have been given my life back and can’t thank you enough.
Thank you for your kind words and recommendation. I will convey your thought to the team. Delighted to know that you are doing well and your symptoms have improved. Wish you speedy recovery and see you soon! KR NKR
I had surgery to partially remove a disc that had burst after a crash, the disc was pressing on a nerve that was causing pain and throbbing down my left shoulder and arm also pins and needles in my fingers.I had a consultation with Mr Rath who gave me my options on going forward, after choosing surgery to get rid of the pain and sleepless nights I had my surgery on 9th February Mr Rath settled any nerves I had. Afterwards Mr Rath came to the ward to check to see how I was, I was kept in hospital overnight for observation’s and even the day after he came up to the ward to see how I was. All the way through Mr Rath dealt with me in a friendly manner and put my mind at rest over the future. It’s been a week since I’ve had my surgery and the throbbing as gone, I’ve still got pain in my shoulder and arm but I’m sure this will settle down as the weeks go on.
I would like to thank Mr Rath and the nurses that looked after me.
Thank you
John Cooper.
Great to know John that you are doing well following your Keyhole neck surgery. It is still early days so please do take and precautions as suggested. Surgery from a small hole doesn't make it any less of a procedure with regards to complexity. Take care and wish you speedy recovery! See you soon Kind Regards NKR
From my initial appointment right through to my operation, Mr Rath and the Spire Hospital Cheshire attended to my every need.
During my initial consultation, Mr Rath listened to the history of my spine issue and my sciatica in my right leg and confirmed that an MRI scan was required. The follow up appointment confirmed that there was an issue with my L5 S1 disc and I was given 3 options, painkillers and intensive physiotherapy, a spinal injection, or an operation.
The procedures and risks were discussed in detail and I decided to go with the less risky procedure of the spinal injection. I’ll have to admit that it wasn’t the most pleasant experience that I have had due to the amount of pain that I was in prior to arriving at the hospital for the injection. Even so, it was carried out in a very professional manner from being admitted to leaving the hospital.
Unfortunately for myself, the injection didn’t work fully and only made my pain issue about 80% better for a couple of weeks. It then plateaued out and gradually worsened before declining rapidly. I was able to get the follow up appointment brought forward where Mr Rath again listened to my issues and explained that an operation was the only way forward but also agreed to a second MRI scan as I was in more pain by this point than I was prior to the spinal injection. Please note that I was still working full time to this point carrying out a physical job and driving for many hours due to my job taking me all over the UK.
The second MRI scan confirmed that my disc issue had worsened, but Mr Rath wasn’t phased by this as it still resulted in the same surgical operation that he had planned to perform.
The day of the operation came, and again from the moment I was admitted in to the hospital to the moment I was discharged, Mr Rath and all of the staff were kind and extremely professional.
I’ve already said that Mr Rath wasn’t phased by a set back that I had and he has a very calming and reassuring nature about himself to put you at ease.
I had my operation right at the end of the 2022 year and so far the result is amazing. I still have the recovery process to go through with the physiotherapists at the Spire hospital, but after suffering so long with back ache and more so sciatica in the whole of my right leg and foot, Mr Rath is nothing short of a miracle worker.
Happy New Year and hope you had a great festive time! I am very pleased to know that you are doing well and making good progress. I wish you speedy recovery and do remember the precautions as advised. I will convey you thought to the team. Kind Regards NKR
