I'm not sure whether this is the same doctor I saw - I know he's been in current post since Oct 2014, same specialism, same mannerisms. For all I know, he could be a very good doctor, it might only be the processes that were wrong. Impersonal - certainly. This was a fast-track appointment - he appeared with his registrar, to whom I gave the relevant information. He then re-appeared for the actual examination (conducted by torch-light - the main lamp wasn't working). His only words to me were 'the skin looks ok'. He & his registrar then had a sotto voce discussion. I emerged to be presented (by the registrar) with onward referral for a biopsy. No explanations. Whatever way the details were passed on to the surgical team, they were clearly muddled (pardon the oxymoron); I ended up having the biopsy in a different area from that the one I'd presented with to the referring GP and which I'd believed was under discussion. The operation itself was a nightmare resulting in a marked relapse in a spinal condition for which I was getting effective epidural treatment elsewhere (and if anyone wants to see why the NHS is going bust, just tot up the costs of both those procedures). It was only through contacting PALS that I got the biopsy results in a letter from him advising me to continue the steroid treatment 'as prescribed' until he saw me again as 'we planned' (no, 'we' hadn't planned anything that I was told about), the follow-up being 3 months after the biopsy. The steroid 'as prescribed' was on a reducing dose to peter out a week after the biopsy, so I was effectively being told to continue not using it. This was classic 'keep the patient out of the loop' stuff - I've seen vets have better communication with their four-legged patients. As said, he might know what he's doing; the process would work a lot better if he let the patients know as well because otherwise it could come across as contempt for women, not the most effective attribute for a gynaecologist.
