I went into Blackpool Victoria in September for surgery to remove my thymus gland as there was a tumour/cyst attached to it. Mr Bittar explained everything to me in full detail about how the surgery would be performed and what my aftercare would be. He has a very professional and friendly approach that put me very much at ease. I had key hole surgery and it all went so well i only spent a couple of hours in ICU where he came to check on me and then went onto ward 39. I had the surgery Thursday and was allowed home on Saturday because it all went so well. I went back to see Mr Bittar today and asked him questions about how the surgery had gone as I had concerns. He explained everything to me and I came away feeling reassured. I am so grateful that I was referred to Mr Bittar for my surgery. I could not of asked for anyone better. I would like to thank Mr Bittar and his team for all they did for me. Truly thankful Mrs J Parkinson

Mr Bittar has done a great job for me, replacing my Aortic Valve. He was able to do this by keyhole ('Port access') surgery, which meant that although it was a major job, I recovered really quickly, and have had no problems since. I was able to walk around the ICU the day after surgery, and the nurses said 'are you sure you have had an operation!' I am now exercising regularly in the gym, and feel really fit. There was some delay in confirming that I am fit to drive again, but that is a minor issue compared with the new lease on life I have been given

I met with Dr Bittar twice before surgery, he was pleasant, did not rush and he gave me and my wife time to ask questions, also volunteering information whiclh we thought afterwards was very important. After the operation he was the first to see me, (probably because I had an allergic reaction to one of the drugs and he was very concerned). After treatmtment was excelent. I understand he is a very busy Doctor but I would recommend him to anyone required heart surgery.

All my dealings with Mr Bittar , his team and the staff in ICU and on Ward 38 were exemplary in every respect. Ever since my first visit to the cardio Unit in Kendal where i was diagnosed with Angina and the following operation in Blackpool right to the Cardio Rehab. which I am about to finish, everyone has been totally professional and positive about my outcome.

Specialises in

Profile

I am a cardiothoracic surgeon, my practice is mixed. In cardiac surgery I have a special interest in aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic surgery, I also perform the general cardiac operations ( CABG, OPCAB and valve surgery). In thoracic surgery, I deal with chest wall, lung, pleural and mediastinal surgical diseases. I have special interest in the minimally invasive approach (video assisted thoracoscopic procedures-VATS lobectomy) and fractured ribs fixation.
I am interested in research; my qualification is a Medical Doctorate M.D. from Manchester University in 2007. My thesis was based on inflammatory response to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This response was linked to certain genotypes of a certain polymorphisms.
My current affiliation is with the University of Salford, I am collaborating with researchers studying the myocardial cell dysfunction, the inflammatory response and its effect on the conduits that used in cardiac surgery.Recently I was appointed as a professor (Hon)@ the University of Salford.
