Very calm, relaxed and reassuring from my first consultation. I was given a date for a triple heart bypass which clashed with a family wedding and there was no problem moving the operation to a later date. Mr Bittar came to the ward each day to have a quick word, the first day he informed me everything went well. the following days he checked on my progress (even calling in a 9pm one one occasion) My nurse in intensive care told me I was in safe hands and that should she require heart surgery, she would want Mr Bittar as her surgeon! Follow up appointment was very brief and I was told to go out and live my life in the safe knowledge that everything was well with my heart Hope I never need his skills again, but if I did I would be happy to have him looking after me.

Mr Bittar put us all at ease from the first contact to surgery after care for my wife's quadruple by-pass surgery.

I recently had to have a triple by pass.I was looked after tremendously. Mr Bittar would call in to see his patients each morning. He told me at our first meeting about the operation and filled me with confidence in him. When i called to see him on my check up he gave me a warm greeting and a strong handshake. A man who i respect a great deal. He did a good job on me.

I am very grateful to Mr. Bittar as he has enabled me to take up my normal outdoor lifestyle after a traumatic heart event. He was at all times confident and professional focusing on positive outcomes and listening to my needs and concerns. We found much in common, especially cycling, and he was ways cheerful, advising me to look to the future. I am making a good recovery ( it is now nearly four months post op ).Care before, during and after the operation was excellent. I must thank Mr. Bittar that my procedure was so prompt and so successful. Additionally, Mr. Bittar found time on his ward rounds to explain procedures and re-assure my wife.I was fortunate to have Mr. Bittar as my surgeon as he inspired confidence and his skills facilitated my almost painless and trouble free recovery. Arrived by ambulance after spending 17 hours in another hospital, was rushed to theatre and operated on immediately by Mr Bittar and his team. For an aortic dissection every thing went well and I cannot thank Mr Bittar and his team enough for my life.

Specialises in

Profile

I am a cardiothoracic surgeon, my practice is mixed. In cardiac surgery I have a special interest in aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic surgery, I also perform the general cardiac operations ( CABG, OPCAB and valve surgery). In thoracic surgery, I deal with chest wall, lung, pleural and mediastinal surgical diseases. I have special interest in the minimally invasive approach (video assisted thoracoscopic procedures-VATS lobectomy) and fractured ribs fixation.
I am interested in research; my qualification is a Medical Doctorate M.D. from Manchester University in 2007. My thesis was based on inflammatory response to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This response was linked to certain genotypes of a certain polymorphisms.
My current affiliation is with the University of Salford, I am collaborating with researchers studying the myocardial cell dysfunction, the inflammatory response and its effect on the conduits that used in cardiac surgery.Recently I was appointed as a professor (Hon)@ the University of Salford.
