Mr Bittar operated to replace the aortic arch and a valve. It was explained to me that it would be a major job (7-8 hours) but survival expectation was good. At 75 years of age one wondered whether it should be undertaken. However everything was gone through in detail with Mr Bittar and his anaesthetist which gave confidence to proceed.
The care I received post op was second to none with constant attention by Mr Bittar and nursing staff. After being very weak initially my strength soon began to return and I was allowed home after 10 days.
Blackpool Vic is justifiably know as a centre of excellence and rightly so in my experience. Anyone facing surgery should be assured that they will get the best of care and can trust the surgical team to provide it. My thanks to them all.
