My first meeting with Mr Amin was at Wexham Park Hospital when he gave me the results of both my MRI scan and biopsy. His cancer diagnosis was followed by the words "But we can cure this". He went on to fully explain what needed to be done and that he would, himself, perform the surgery at Northwick Park Hospital on 22nd February 2017. My daughter who accompanied me to this first appointment and I left the meeting reassured and absolutely confident that I was in the right hands. I went to Northwick Park three days before the surgery for the pre admissions procedure and was further reassured when I met the pre admissions team. On reporting for the operation on the 22nd, Mr Amin arrived at 0830 and introduced me to his Assistant, Dr Kumar, and other Members of his team who he said would be helping him in the operating theatre during my surgery. The operation started around noon and the next thing I knew I was being brought round in Recovery five or so hours later. In Recovery I was looked after during the night by a Spanish nurse from Toledo who could not have been kinder. At lunchtime on the 23rd I was transferred to Grey Ward on the 7th floor of the hospital. There I could not have been better cared for during the whole of my stay. The Staff, both Nurses and Doctors making their rounds, are diligent and hard working and their care and kindness is exceptional. A week after my surgery Mr Amin came to give me the news that my cancer was clear and that I would not need radiotherapy. After this news had full sunk in, sobs came I know not from where but deep in the pit of my stomach. I was hospitalised longer than anticipated due to a glitch in my healing process. As soon as this setback was discovered, Mr Amin 'phoned my daughter to update her. Mr Amin came to see me five days out of seven whilst I was in Northwick Park, including Saturday and Sunday mornings. During my first follow-up appointment one month after my discharge from Northwick Park, Mr Amin told me I had been a very good patient - in fact a model patient - he said. It is not at all difficult to be a model patient when you have absolute confidence in your Surgeon and superb nursing care such as I received in the Maxillofacial Department at Northwick Park. Mr Amin is a brilliant, kind and caring Surgeon and I feel so fortunate to have been his patient and I owe him so very much.
