I recently visited Mr Grainger after struggling with a spinal problem and nerve pain for years. I had provided them with all the information way ahead of the appointment to which his team confirmed they would blue light my scans so he could give a second opinion. After 30 minutes into the consultation and mr grainger spending all that time talking about studies and totally unrelated topics, I asked if he had looked at my scans as that was the main reason I was paying him to give a second opinion. He had spent almost an hour giving his opinions and hadn’t even looked at my scans and then made up excuses that he wouldn’t argue with the letters and opinions of others. After wasting my time, I then asked if they could possibly do an exploratory surgery to see if my damaged disc was causing the nerve pain. To which he refused but then proceeded to tell me he did this exact surgery for a friend who had asked, but wouldn’t do it for me. I found this man to be incredibly unprofessional and lacking in compassion. Why say you wouldn’t do something for a desperate patient and then continue to state he did it for a friend and helped them. It was almost like mocking me or kicking someone when they are down. After this he also reminded me that he would forget about me as soon as I left his clinic room. I thought he was absolutely atrocious, uneducated and lacking compassion. He made it very clear that he could not care less for me as a patient who was desperate and seeking help. I would NOT recommend this man.

Mr Grainger spent a good bit of time with me in the months prior to the surgery to insure that I understood this complicated piece of work and the fact that he could not guarantee a positive result, even though they would try their best. I had an outstanding outcome from the surgery. I had not been able to walk upright for several years prior to the op but am able to stand and walk upright now with no nerve pain in my legs and feet which had been an enormous problem. He clearly is confident in letting you know that he is good at what he does but he is also honest about the fact that they cannot always predict a positive outcome. I have nothing but praise for the surgical and anesthetic team at the ROH. The first time I was able to stand up straight was a moment that will always remain with me--really a miracle.

Mr Grainger puts you at your ease. It is plain he is good at his job and he knows it (not in any conceited way) but his confidence in what he has to do gives confidence to the patient. I couldn't recommend him and his team highly enough.
