I have just learnt today of the passing of Mark Wright, I am absolutely gutted. At 36 I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and I can honestly say not only did he probably save my life but he made the whole traumatic ordeal so much easier with his sense of humour and compassion. He really made me feel like I genuinely mattered, not just a statistic. Taken far too early

My husband was diagnosed with a kidney tumour in May 2012 completely by chance following prostate cancer 2 years earlier, although not related. Mark was recommended as the best possible surgeon to perform the nephrectomy and had it not been for his immediate response of "you aren't my best friend, but if you were, I would tell you you need immediate surgery" Enough said! Everything was successful and Mark's care was second to none - both for my husband and his concern for me. Over the following years his aftercare has been tremendous and we got to know him quite well and so it was with the utmost shock and disbelief we learned today of his tragic passing. My husband's next appointment with him was originally due next week. Our thoughts are with his family and his colleagues and we are sure it goes without saying he saved my husband's life and countless more - we are truly indebted to this wonderful man whose life has been taken far too soon. RIP. Sue and Mike Clayton

I was unfortunate to be diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in both kidneys in October 2015. I live in Plymouth but I was referred to southmead hospital in Bristol to see Mr Mark Wright. I had my first consultation with Mark in January 2016. At this consultation he made me feel all was not lost and I would be OK. He gave me my operation dates for keyhole surgery that day as well. My first op was February 2016, second op March 2016. Mark came to see me just before my first op and put me at ease and I felt totally relaxed. Surgery went perfectly both times and my recovery was fast. I returned to work 12 weeks later with minimal scarring. My recovery I put down to mark and his team. They where fantastic in every way. Mark, in my opinion saved my life and I will be forever grateful for what he did for me and my family. For now I have the all clear. If you are unfortunate to become ill and mark is your surgeon, you are in the best care in the world and he will look after you as he looked after me. Thank-you mark for my life.
