My mom Eileen Boland had her second cateract operation last Thursday performed by Mark (who also did the 1st cateract for her last year). From the moment you meet this man you trust him, his manner and care given throughout is first class. The team who work with him are caring, re assuring and you know you are in the best hands from start to finish. Optegra (Birmingham) is exceptional and if anyone is considering surgery, this is the best place to come to

Just a quick review now, just 12 hrs after surgery. My second cataract operation was today; the first was not carried out by Mark. Firstly he listened and really took on board what my eyes had been like over the many years I have been wearing contact lenses. Mark agreed to set up my second eye to enable me to read as I have been using my eyes individually for many years with contact lenses. My first operation, by another surgeon at an NHS hospital was life-changing and went very well and I was very happy with the treatment, process and results. However I can now compare the process with today. I was surprised that today the local anaesthetic was delivered totally through eye drops and I therefore avoided the most distressing part of the previous procedure which was the injected anaesthetic. The operation was smooth and Mark and his colleagues were very reassuring and pleasant. I felt no pain and the procedure was competed without any difficulties. Today I was able to remove the eye cover on returning home and my vision has just improved by the minute. I can now read relatively small print with absolutely no assistance, as I say, just twelve hours after the surgery! The two eyes are also working extremely well together for distance vision. Amazing! I feel, for the first time, that I am really using both eyes. I have had no pain, or discomfort and one more very noticeable difference is that apart from an enlarged pupil there is no evidence that I have had anything done to my eye. Last time my eye was severely bloodshot for a number of days but I have no sign of any now. Again, this is a big thank you for the care and precision that must have been taken. Mark also reassured me that as changes occur in my eyes in the distant future these would be easily rectifiable. I would like to find something to improve, but I can't think of anything. A friend's husband is considering surgery and I would highly recommend him to consult with Mark. A big thank you and I will update this after a few days or whenever my optimum vision is reached.

I booked an appointment with Mark Wevill at Optegra, after scans, eye examination and a chat with Mark Wevill. Mark asked me how long did I have a lazy eye (lefy eye) for? I said I was about 10 years old, I also had poor vision in the right eye. I could not see with out my glasses. I previously tried contacts lens and seeked advise about laser treatment, I was declined laser treatment due to my lazy eye. Mark agreed I was a complex patient but he was confident he could carry out lens replacement. Mark said he would operate on my lazy eye first, the following week I had the right eye lens replacement performed. My first eye lense replacement on the 20 Sept and second eye op on the 27 Sept. Wow... I have not had to wear my glasses for the last week, I am so greatful to be able to read again with out looking for my glasses, It was a painless procedure and only took about 15 minutes per eye. I would like to THANK "Mark" and his staff for 1st class care and giving me the confidence to believe in HIM and his team. Mark also contacted me the evening of my 1st eye lens replacement to ask how I was feeling and If I had any concerns. I thought that was a nice touch and what a caring person Maek is... Regards Sharon

For many months I had been contemplating multifocal lens replacement surgery in both eyes as I suffer from age related presbyopia (I am 69 years of age). I needed glasses for reading and a separate pair for driving. Two dancing friends had recently undergone the same procedure with you, Mark, and strongly recommended your expertise and they encouraged me to explore in depth the possibility based on their own positive and most successful experience. Thank you for giving me the confidence to proceed. You understood my fear of the unknown and normalized my thoughts in a most positive, reassuring and friendly manner. Within 3 weeks of attending I now have 20/20 vision in both eyes and the healing process is still continuing. I feel in safe hands and it is good to know that aftercare is always there. Wonderful!

Mark and all the staff at Optegra Birmingham have been superb. I had bilateral multifocai inta occular lens implants and was delighted with the results, I no longer need glasses. I was given a great deal of information that enabled me to make an informed decision at no point was any pressure placed on me to go ahead with the procedure. The atmosphere at Birmingham was very pleasant and Mark and his staff were always kind and reassuring. Thankyou very much for all your care and I would recommend Mark as your surgeon, the follow ups are excellent.
