Mr Mark Falworth has looked after me firstly in August 2018 with a right rotator cuff repair operation which was quite comprehensive and he did so with expertise, care and made me feel at ease and I had total confidence in him before and also after the operation when there was quite a lengthy recuperation period for the arm to gain good muscle tone and strength. This year i had an impingement of my left shoulder which was a minor problem and it was also dealt with expertly and with kindness and i think he is an excellent surgeon.

From the first appointment in March 2019, to the pre-assessment, to the surgery and to follow up consultations up to December 2019, I found Dr Falworth extreme;y reliable, professional, and so easy to trust at each step. His assessments and opinions were very open and you begin to have that trust which is so crucial in this relationship. I have already recommended a friend to him who has been equally happy.

I was sent to Mr Falworth after other specialists had not been able to diagnose the problem within my sternum area. Me Falworth suggested MRI tests and on my next visit had diagnosed the problem but advised this was a complex area to operate on so suggested we looked at other avenues to correct my problem. I had full input into my treatment and listened to him and took all the advise he offered which was excellent after we had been through all options Mr Falworth asked me if I would like to go ahead with surgery and as this was my last option I agreed. Throughout all my consultations I felt at ease and felt I was under a true professional with many years experience. I undertook the operation and everything went well and fixed the problem I had endured for many years. I am now 13 weeks post surgery and still recovering from a major operation but still been cared for by Mr Falworth and the team. All I can say is I would recommend Mr Falworth and the National orphapaedic hospital to anyone as they are top of there game. Thank you everyone

Profile

My practice is solely limited to the multidisciplinary management of conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. Patients’ needs, and the use of physiotherapy and interventional radiology techniques, are always considered before surgical solutions are discussed and utilised. All treatments are evidence based and reflect the exacting standards that I adhere to in my role as a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

I qualified in Medicine from King’s College Hospital, London in 1996 and underwent my higher specialist orthopaedic training on the St Mary’s Hospital rotation in London. I then undertook a further two years of specialist Fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery in London, Austria, Australia and the USA.

I now provide a comprehensive service covering all aspects of open and arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, including providing a significant revision service to other orthopaedic surgeons throughout the UK. I am widely published in the orthopaedic research literature as well as being the author of several text book chapters related to shoulder and elbow surgery. I am also a regular invited speaker at both national and international scientific meetings and instructional courses.

I am currently the elected Vice President of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) and was Clinical Lead to the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital from 2012 to 2017. I was previously the elected Hon. Treasurer to BESS and I am currently the Chairman of the Instructional Course Committee, which is responsible for coordinating educational content for the annual Instructional Course for shoulder and elbow surgeons and AHP's in the UK. In 2018 I was also honoured to be awarded a prestigious BESS Copeland Fellowship in order to help project the work of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society internationally.
