I wish to highly recommend Mr. Marcus Cope for being such a professional, skilful and helpful Orthopaedic Surgeon and to thank him whole heartedly for completing a successful right hip replacement operation for myself on the 18th July 2022. He is surrounded by a complete team who all play their parts as true professionals in pre and post op care for their patients. I wish to thank them all for their dedication to duty and a special thank you to Mr. Cope.

Having had years of Arthritic knee pain, I had the physio, steroid injections and nothing helped, until I met Mr. Cope in August 2021. He said he could help me and I would need to have both knees replaced. He advised that it would be 3-4months before I would get an operation. I went to Dublin to see family in August/Sept 2021, when we arrived in Dublin there was a missed call on my phone, it was Renacres inviting me in for a pre-Op, I was to have my operation on the 21st Sept. Mr. Cope was very reassuring in that he could help me, he did, I can't thank him enough. When I went back for my 6week check-up, I asked "What should I be doing now", he said walking as much as you can, but with your right knee, it could collapse at any time, so best to have your walking stick with you at all times. In February 2022 I was called by Renacres to come in for a Covid Test and a pre-op, as I would be having my next Op on the 11th April, I did ask if a cancellation came up, would they consider me, they put this down on my file. I was called on a Wednesday to come in on the Friday for my Op on my right knee. Again, Mr. Cope was very attentive and reassuring, it's great to have the confidence in a Surgeon/Consultant to look after you and your knees. The operation went good, same as last time, I knew the ropes to as what to do for physio, second time round, so much easier as you know you need to do the exercises to be able to get back to normal. When I saw Mr. Cope 7weeks after my 2nd Op, he was very pleased and I asked when could I take a flight, he asked where was I going and I told him and he said Sept/Oct would be good and my knee would be ready for a long flight, but to make sure to walk up and down the aisle. I'm glad to say that after 6months, I'm back to gardening and cooking, I was able to walk around Southport Flower Show without any mishaps and also going to the Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland, that was the real test, as you would walk to the viewing ground, walk back to the stands, down again for another race, I was tired by the end of the day, but great success being able too, it means I'll now be able to go to Race meetings with my husband and everything else and it's all thanks to Mr. Cope who fixed my knees. I do still use my icepacks on my knees at night while watching TV and also last thing at night in bed. My friend in Australia has bought me some icepacks for me to put on my knees after our long flight. If any person has Mr. Cope as their Surgeon, you are in safe hands, he is wonderful, easy to talk too, (not that I did much talking), I went with what was recommended for me and when I saw him I then had some questions for him (I typed them out) and he listened and answered me. I had my operation in Renacres, all members of staff were great, I'd have no hesitation in recommending Renacres for any treatment especially if you have Mr. Cope. He puts you at ease straight away, tells you what is involved in the operation and how soon you would recover from it. His Physio staff are excellent too. You get really marvellous care.

I didn't really know what's been wrong with me these last seven years, I had been told my problems with walking and standing upright where due to a lower back problem which I believed and tried to ease the pain and posture problems with ever increasing amounts of pain killers and chiropractic visits and manipulations which never worked but I tried my best to carry on. I let it go on to long, I was walking like some hunched over creature from Planet of the Apes for six long years when I walked into Mr Copes office, a quick xray and an examination later he confirmed that not only did I require a hip replacement but it was that badly worn out I was to go on the list immediately and if I wished to also go on the cancellation list as there was a chance the op could had quicker, I did go on this list and only a few weeks later I had the surgery. I was in hospital for only a few days but felt immediately better than I was before. I'm now two months post op and I feel incredible, after hardly walking at all and barley able to manage to keep my job for literally years and being a total couch potato I'm doing fantastically, I'm now able to walk three miles a night and this is getting longer all the time as my muscle mass gets back to normal after laying on my couch for so many years. Other amazing benefits are my cholesterol is back in the green zone, I've been taken off blood pressure tablets as that's now normalised and I've no need to take pain killers any more, and in just two months I have lost two stones in weight following the NHS diet app plan, its like my body is resetting back to normal after a fault and I have so much energy now. Mr Cope re-examined me and came in for a few chats following surgery when i was in hospital and agian at outpatients six weeks later where he gave me permission to drive agian and gave me more advise on recovery and made my six month appointment. I have nothing but respect for Mr Cope and indeed all the staff at Renacers hospital where I received my NHS hip replacement surgery, he is very easy to talk to and explained the process very well, at all stages I knew what would happen next and always felt help and advice was there if needed. One thing I did read about in the literature but kind of ignored was to get any dental work out of the way pre op, my molar cap has come off and my dentist won't go near me for treatment till I'm six months post op- DOH ! In conclusion the treatment I received from Mr Cope was literally second to none, he is an excellent chap and his work has been literally life changing for me. From AND my family- thank you sir !

Mr Cope is.excellent in all aspects. He listens to your aspirations and makes you feel at ease with his answers and fully explains what to expect before and after your operation. His care and attention to detail is amazing and the recovery programme could not be better. I would certainly recommend Mr Cope to any other potential patients.

I felt Mr Cope was a little abrupt on our first meeting. He sent me for an X-ray which the radiologist refused to do as I had already had an X-ray a few week previous. When I returned to Mr Cope he kindly apologised for not reading my notes properly. He was obviously having a very busy day and seemed much calmer and polite. He very kindly explained details of my X-ray and felt an MRI scan would be beneficial, this I had four weeks later. When I returned to the hospital two weeks later Mr Cope went into great detail regarding the results, which was very much appreciated by both my husband and myself, he then offered me a steroid injection into my knee, which I accepted, however, the injection was not a pleasant experience. I am glad to say my knee is much improved and I have been discharged. If I need more treatment in the future, I hope Mr Cope will be kind enough to see me again as I know I can trust his judgment and expertise.
