Having suffered with Endometriosis for over 30 years and having several laparoscopies, by the time I was in my early 40s, my symptoms had reached a level which was affecting my life in every way, it was suggested that I also had symptoms of Adenomyosis. Having felt let down by other gynaecologists, I decided to try and find someone myself and so on one of my pain filled, desperate days I simply googled ‘best specialist for Adenomyosis’..and up came Mr Mahantesh Karoshi as one of the ‘Top Doctors’ in the UK. I am so glad I did that google search! On meeting Mr Karoshi, he immediately put me at ease and listened carefully to my endometriosis life story and possible adenomyosis which were both making my life so unhappy and full of pain to the point that I was considering having to give up my career. In fact I think his empathy overwhelmed me as I broke down at one point which he was very understanding about! It felt great to feel that someone was finally listening to me and wanted to help me to find out what could be done to treat the problems. Despite it being late in the day..he phoned the hospital to try his best to get me an MRI done on the same day as he understood that I had made the long journey from Kent so wanted me to avoid having to travel again the following week. Several phone calls later and he told me to go straight to the hospital where after a short wait I had an MRI done. The result was Adenomyosis, so the next step was for Mr Karoshi to talk about my options which he took time to do and showed understanding of the enormity of deciding whether to have a hysterectomy especially given my age (43) at the time. I had to fund these first appointments with Mr Karoshi myself as didn’t have health insurance, but it was money well spent, as for the first time I actually felt that I was getting closer to getting some help and hopefully treating my conditions. As fate would have it in January this year I received the excellent news that I would be able to have a hysterectomy using my partner’s health insurance which was made possible by a change in job. Mr Karoshi was also pleased that this was the case and immediately set the wheels in motion for him to perform my hysterectomy at The Cavell hospital. The operation went well and Mr Karoshi made sure that I was well enough and ready to go home rather than me feeling rushed. I then had a follow up appointment 2 weeks later in which Mr Karoshi asked how my recovery was going and discussed the findings from my operation. We also had a good chat about my work with Endo UK and how grateful I was to finally find a specialist who genuinely wanted to help me. That will always be my lasting impression of Mr Karoshi….He genuinely cares about his patients and for the first time in my entire adult life I knew that I had finally found a doctor who made me feel validated when describing just how difficult these conditions are to live with. Thank you Mr Karoshi and his team. I am 6 weeks post hysterectomy now and feeling positive about the rest of my life ahead, which I am certain will now be a much less painful one in every way.
