Specialises in: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
I am a specialist surgeon of the Mouth, Jaw and Face (Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon). I'm one of the most highly experienced surgeons in temporomandibular joints (TMJ) replacement surgery in the UK, carrying out the majority of these operations performed in the South of England. I am happy to treat any condition that affects the mouth, neck, jaw and face - from impacted wisdom teeth to facial trauma, from salivary gland stones to head and neck cancer, from dental implants to complex reconstruction. I work in a range of hospitals and treat both children and adults. I have a special interest in TMJ disorders including jaw joint pain, clicky joint, locking jaw, restricted opening of the jaw as well as enlarged jaw and bone conditions. I provide diagnostic/treatment for oral cancer, including reconstructive surgery and I pioneered free flap jaw reconstruction for cancer patients. In addition I cover head and neck trauma; facial fractures; jaw fractures; salivary gland disease, submandibular gland conditions, thyroid and parotid gland conditions and skin cancer of the head and neck.
I would like to preface this by saying that I deliberately held off posting this review until I had sought a second opinion, begun treatment elsewhere, and had time to assess its effects. Luke Cascarini was recommended to me by a friend who had a positive experience, which was a significant factor in my decision to proceed. However, TMJ dysfunction is highly individual in how it presents, behaves, and progresses, and outcomes can vary greatly from patient to patient. Besides the recommendation, I initially chose him because of his strong social media presence. His videos are well-produced, informative, and genuinely useful as educational resources… I appreciated being able to refer back to them. Cascarini is clearly interested in alternative and emerging medical treatments, which in principle can be admirable. However, in my case, this approach did not translate into a careful or accurate clinical assessment. I was misdiagnosed, and the consultation felt rushed - so brief, in fact, that it could easily have been conducted by telephone or video, which was frustrating given that I had travelled to see him in person. I also found his manner impersonal, which made it difficult to feel heard or reassured as a patient. I was concerned that the proposed treatment plan did not appear to follow NICE guidelines, the evidence-based standards typically used in NHS practice. This raised questions for me about the strength of the evidence base and the appropriateness of the suggested interventions. For TMJ dysfunction in particular, it was in my best interest to seek out more conservative specialists who adhere closely to established guidelines. The TMJ is a very small joint in a highly sensitive and complex area, where even minor interventions can have significant and lasting consequences. Based on my personal experience, I would recommend seeking a second opinion before proceeding. That said, he may well suit other patients, so it is always worth consulting more than one specialist.

I recently had the privilege of consulting with Mr. Cascarini at the Harley Street Specialist Hospital, and I am compelled to share my truly outstanding experience. As a patient safety lead, I highly value thoroughness and professionalism, and Mr. Cascarini surpassed my expectations in every way. From the outset, Mr. Cascarini demonstrated brilliance in his holistic approach as a maxillofacial specialist. Instead of focusing solely on specific treatments, he delved into my case comprehensively, leaving no stone unturned to understand and address my concerns. It was clear that he genuinely cares about his patients' well-being, and his reassuring and professional demeanor instantly put me at ease. What sets Mr. Cascarini apart is not only his exceptional understanding of holistic care but also his ability to add positive values to the patient experience. He goes beyond the conventional aspects of his role, providing a level of compassionate and comprehensive care that is truly commendable. I must also mention the invaluable contribution of Mariana, his medical secretary. Her efficiency, promptness, and seamless communication added another layer of excellence to the overall service. The reassurance and support I received from her were instrumental in making the entire process smooth and stress-free. In addition to his professional prowess, Mr. Cascarini demonstrated a personal touch that made my holistic journey with him truly special. The fact that he remembered details about my life, such as my wedding plans, spoke volumes about his genuine interest in his patients. It was a small yet incredibly meaningful gesture that underscored his commitment to a holistic and patient-centered approach. In summary, my experience with Mr. Cascarini and his team at the Harley Street Specialist Hospital was nothing short of remarkable. I wholeheartedly recommend him for anyone seeking not only a brilliant maxillofacial specialist but also a caring and compassionate healthcare professional who approaches treatment holistically. The positive impact of his holistic approach, coupled with Mariana's exceptional support, has left an indelible mark on my journey towards better health. This review reflects my genuine appreciation for the outstanding holistic care provided.

I had pain in my jaw for quite a few years. I had a couple of appointments with Mr Cascarini and he laid out a treatment plan clearly, explaining exactly what he thought was best, and answering any questions i had fully. He performed my surgery recently, giving full after care, including phoning me to check i was ok. He was very easy to contact when i needed his advice, and was extremely caring and professional. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of an Oral Maxillofacial surgeon.

It was actually a relief to see some other comments about arthroscopies with this doctor here. I feel you are sold these surgeries so easily with so much charm, but if you don't have a good result from it, the charm runs out very quickly. The surgeon doesn't want to deal with you and wants to obliterate you from his mind. I was told that no one has hearing problems after having an arthroscopy with him and to go to see an ENT. It turns out a lot of other people were told the same thing. These procedures using stem cell have very uncertain affects so please don't assume they won't make you feel worse. For some people they could hasten your journey to jaw replacement rather than slow it down if you deteriorate badly after an arthroscopy. Proper records should be kept of this and people should be told before they sign up. I think this doctor is all charm when you are signing up but if you call to say you are feeling so much worse he said things like 'i just did an hours long cancer surgery' which seem designed to make you feel guilty for saying how awful you feel. It was so upsetting because when you go for appointments befor the surgery he acts like you are a really important patient. If anything goes wrong and you get worse you are on your own.

I had an arthroscopy earlier this year. I was not told of any complications that could occur. I asked if there was any possibility it could make me worse. I was told no. This however was not true. I am in a far worse state now. I now have nerve pain that I didn't have before. I now also have joint pain, which again I didn't have before . I have no quality of life. In contestant pain. The communication and after care is terrible. I feel completely let down, untrusting of any further treatment that I know I will need with another Doctor. I am out thousands of pounds to be even worse that I was before hand.

Mr Cascarini is by far the best doctor I have ever met. I have a lot of other health issues so have seen numerous doctors. He is incredibly compassionate and makes you feel truly cared for and that he has your best interests at heart. He is beyond knowledgeable. Mr Cascarini always listens to you and is very patient answering all questions you have with out making you feel rushed. . He is such a skilled surgeon. I had an arthroscopy with him in February and was extremely anxious. He put me at ease and for the first time I had full trust in a doctor. His team were also fantastic and kept me nice and calm. Harley is amazing and so was another nurse (I can’t think of her name) who really looked after me. Mr Cascarini is just a lovely person and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough. if you are having jaw issues he is who you need to see.

I just wanted to thank Luke again following the jaw operation so kindly performed for me eleven weeks ago . I can't begin to explain what a difference this has already made to my life in such a short space of time, having put up with severe pain for more than a decade and latterly suffered total lack of jaw movement. To be able to eat food properly again and be pain free feels truly amazing and is a target l felt l would never aspire to. Friends and family cannot believe how little scaring is evident and how good l look and feel about myself. Indeed it is becoming less evident day by day that l have ever had such an operation. Grateful thanks and kind regards AS

This is the first time i have gone out of my way and taken the time to write a review on such a site but i have to share my experince as a family and the outcome due to this remarkable surgeon (and man) Mr Luke Cascarini and his team. My Father is 85 and has a history of heart disease which first came to light in 2001. He was diagnosed with cancer of the mandible in February 2019 and although we searched thoroughly through the options that we believed were available through the NHS we unfortunately came to a dead end as the help that we so desperately needed had stopped being offered. We had reached an absolute point of desperation due to a lack of contact so i started my search for an alternative route and honestly speaking just wanted someone who would listen and respond. Not only did we find that person who was willing to listen we found in Mr Cascarini a man that was precise and confident in the information he was given us taking all of the circumstances into consideration. Mr Cascarini and his secretary Carla had arranged a complete team that made sure every possibility of success regarding the surgery was covered. i am pleased to say that my 85 year old father no longer has cancer of the mandible following the surgery as it was successfully removed by this brilliant man, i genuinely hope that this review brings some hope and relevant information to another family that may of faced similar circumstances or someone who is simply looking for an outstanding surgeon who does exactly what he says he will do. Cannot recommend highly enough, Mr D.
