I literally never do these things - like ever.. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about Mr Alakandy, as I’ve recently gone through Orthopaedic surgery at the Golden Jubilee. If it wasn’t for the way Mr Alakandy treated me and benefited my life with the outcome of my spinal surgery, I don’t think I would have had the confidence to have my recent surgery, and have been so chilled about it. I met Mr Alakandy in 2018 at Ross Hall by self referral, as there was a long waiting list at the Queen Elizabeth. I was really struggling with mobility and excruciating pain due to a disc prolapse - L5/S1. He advised me straightaway I needed surgery and made that happen not long after meeting with him. He took the time to see me on the day before my surgery to answer any questions, assuring me he was confident it would be a success, which it turned out to be. I can still dance, flip, and run around in heels thanks to LA. He has the cutest dimples too - favourite

Hi, Mr Alakandy performed a T7/8 thoracic discectomy on me in 2010 at the Southern General hospital. I'd had a heart attack six months prior to this and had 3 stents fitted. This meant that I couldn't have the spinal op until six months had elapsed. During this time, I became more and more disabled and could barely walk, even with the aid of a zimmer frame. I later took up cycling, walking, paddle boarding and now martial arts. I owe this man my mobility and my life as at one point I had a 50:50 chance of surviving the op. He is also one of the gentlest, kindest, caring people you could meet.

Mr Alakandy removed the majority of my brain tumour at the QUEH in June 2018. I was instantly at ease upon meeting him and his empathy and care was evident in the leadup to my surgery. I had lots of questions and he always gave me the space and time I needed. He accompanied me on the way to theatre on the morning of my surgery and visited me several times afterward during my 3 night stay post op. If I ever need neuro or spinal surgery again, I would want him as my surgeon. A fantastic surgeon and a lovely human being.

I'll start by saying I don't normally write reviews however I feel compelled to mention how Mr Alakandy changed my life for the best.. I experienced trauma to my C4/C5 disc through a rugby accident. The disc was replaced by an artificial disc however I experienced complications and had to get another 4 surgeries. Mr Alakandy was amazing throughout this ordeal! He was alway there for me and always gave good and honest advice. It was a very scary time in my life but Mr Alakandy made it a lot easier to deal with. I am glad to say that I'm in the clear and I owe everything to Mr Alakandy and his team. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mr Alakandy - You're in safe hands.

This doctor saved my mum’s life after she suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2009, after other doctors at the then Southern General (now Queen Elizabeth University Hospital) in Glasgow felt she wouldn’t survive. My mother, who was an NHS RGN nurse who worked in Stobhill Hospital, medical receiving ward, 2b and loved her job. It was sad to see this happen to her as she was caring for someone with a similar condition shortly before this happened. We are fast approaching ten years since she collapsed with the condition and, happy to advise that she is still with us. Part of her brain was removed (frontal lobe) and during the this time she suffered mini strokes during her life saving surgery, however, she still lives and breathes to this day, 10 years on. This man deserves more than a medal, he is truly a master in his field. I cannot thank this gentleman enough for what he done that day in December 2009. You will always be remembered by her 3 daughters and husband. We are forever in your debt
