After a very long wait on the NHS list I was able to be seen at the Spire Hospital in Washington. I was allocated to Mr Lee Longstaff. From our first meeting I felt totally cared for and in the best of hands. Mr Longstaff put me at ease, answered all questions and reassured me about what was ahead.
My operation took place early Saturday morning and I was back home Sunday afternoon. The care I received and the facilities at the Spire were excellent. All of the staff were so approachable, knowledgeable and attentive which is just what you want. All these factors went towards my whole experience of total Hip Replacement being as smooth and straightforward as it could possibly be.
I cannot speak highly enough of Mr Longstaff and his team, just had my 10 month follow up appointment this morning, and so delighted with my recovery and result. I wish the same for anybody needing replacement operations.
From our first consultation and thereafter Mr Longstaff was very polite, informative and thorough. His explanations of the pros and cons of the replacement hip choices was easy to understand. He has followed up the operation as best as he could under the present circumstances forced on him by the Pandemic.
I had a total hip replacement in November 2019 which has been a great success. Mr Longstaff performed the surgery and
During the initial outpatient assessment he spent time to understand my background and my needs and fears as a patient, making clear what the process, risks and outcomes could be for someone my age (47).
On the day of the operation he met with me prior to the procedure and although this was a quick visit he again took me through a summary of what was going to happen.
Post operation he gave me a thumbs up when I going to recovery to show it had gone to plan which was reassuring.
He came to see me on the ward to explain the procedure went well.
I did hear Mr Longstaff give the ward nurses a few instructions about the requirements for medication and blood clot injections. The nurses didn't follow his instructions however following their own protocols. Something that could be improved for the deliver of care as a whole team.
In follow up outpatients I have seen Mr Longstaff twice and he explained the X-Ray scans, the devices used for the THR and we had a god discussion about progress and how to manage risks like dislocation.
Overall very happy with the experience and I would regard Mr Longstaff as a surgical legend who has given me a second go at an active life.
Just recently had 2 knee operations done by Mr Longstaff, one in August and the other one in November. I would recommend him to every one. Had very little pain and was discharged from the physio after 2 appointments on both occasions. Care at the Nuffield was excellent. Thank you.
Mr Longstaff is a very proffesional and caring person. throughout my treatment which culminated in a total hip replacement he wxlpained all of the options, consequences, risks and probable outcomes in detail and answered all of my concerns.
The operation was a massive success.
I am very happy with the outcome and his care of me throughout the process. I have no criticisms of him ad his team at the Spire Washington and highly recommend him
