Written by a patient at Royal Preston Hospital
16th September 2017

I have been suffering since January 2017 from a L5/S1 disc prolapse. The quality of my life significantly deteriorated over the proceeding months and I had to wait for a long time before a referral was made to the neurosurgery department in Preston. This included having to be admitted to Lancaster for a couple of days after extreme back pain which resulted in incontinence and saddle anaesthesia. I saw Mr Ghosh in his clinic and he was the only person throughout this process who fully understood my pain and the physical and emotional distress this was causing me. He explained to me my treatment options in a very clear and supportive manner. I felt safe under his care and decided to go ahead with the operation he offered me. On the day of the procedure he took my consent in a clear way and his manner was warm, gentle and caring. After my operation he came to see me on the ward and explained what he had found and what my recovery process was likely to be. I can truly say that Mr Ghosh has given me my life back because immediately after the operation my nerve pain, incontinence and saddle anaesthesia had improved. I cannot thank him enough for his professional manner, caring nature and clinical acumen. He is a true asset to the neurosurgery department at Preston. S Khan.
