I was diagnosed with a Colloid Cyst using a private service through my health insurance provide AXA. I had an MRI scan on Wed 18th Jan 2023, at Spire Shawfair, Edinburgh using the mobile MRI unit. That day I was called by the consultant radiologist and asked to attend A + E at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, to see the on call neurosurgeon. When I met Mr Kandasamy, he was able to explain the diagnosis properly and the resulting symptoms I had been experiencing for the 6 months previous, he also explained the possible options and outcomes very clearly. I underwent surgery - endoscopic resection on Friday 20th January 2023 (Department of Clinicla Neurosciences at RIE). When I awoke that afternoon, I knew exactly where I was and what had happened. Mr Kandasamy was present and explained that the surgery had gone well, before I was taken to an HDU ward for overnight observation. I was discharged on Monday afternoon 23rd January for recovery at home. I was signed off work for 10 weeks by my GP. Mr Kandasamy answered my questions that I, and members of my family had via his NHS secretary during my recovery, which was very reassuring. He also wrote a letter to assist with my correspondence with the DVLA regarding keeping my driving license. (I had to stop driving for 6 months and notify the DVLA of the surgery) I attended the DCN again at the Royal Infirmaty of Edinburgh for follow up MRI scan May 2023. I received a letter explainign that the scan showed a successful surgery. 10/11 months on, December 2023, I have had an outpatient appointment this morning with Mr Kandasamy, and he has explained that the resection was successful and he managed complete removal. I won't need to have yearly MRI scans on this basis. I would like to thank Mr Kandasamy again, for his great care and communication throughout. I would highly recommend Mr Kandasamy to anyone going through something similar.

Mr. Kandasamy has helped me enormously with understanding the best option for treatment of my bulging / herniated disc (L4/L5). After suffering with pain over the course of 12 months, I had an MRI scan and a follow up consultation with Mr. Kandasamy, who carefully explained the results from the scan. Mr. Kandasamy took time to listen to the particular symptoms I had been experiencing and provided explanations for the underlying causes of those symptoms. Once I had the required information on my condition, and a clear understanding from Mr, Kandasamy of my treatment options and any associated risks, I opted for surgery (microdiscectomy). Fortunately for me, my symptoms started to ease ahead of surgery, and after further discussion with Mr. Kandasamy, we cancelled the surgery. Most importantly, Mr. Kandasamy suggested a follow-up consultation after 6 weeks, to ensure my condition was continuing to improve, Once again, Mr Kandasamy took time to listen to my questions and offered valuable advice which resulted in an outcome that I was extremely happy with. Hopefully I am on the road to recovery, however I have the comfort of knowing that my situation will be reviewed after 6 weeks to ensure continued improvement, with the possibility of a further MRI scan should things deteriorate again. I cannot recommend Mr. Kandasamy highly enough. My quality of life over the last 13 months has been drastically affected by my condition and so it was a huge relief to speak to someone who could completely understand what I was going through, and also offer sensible and practical advice.

For months I suffered from severe leg pain which got progressively worse and severely affected my mobility. An MRI scan showed I had Spinal Stenosis. I arranged a consultation with Mr Kandasamy. He explained in simple language and with great empathy what the problem was and spelt out my options. I decided on the surgery and a date was arranged for it to by done at the Spire in Edinburgh. On the day of the operation I struggled in to the hospital. By 5pm the same day I was sitting in the garden of the hospital…..pain free. Through the whole process Mr Kandasamy was both professional and attentive. I can’t thank him enough. I have my life back!!!

After discussing my condition with Mr. Kandasamy I read up on recommended material pertaining to my condition and two months later had a Laminectomy/Decompression operation in the lumber area of L4/L5. The informed conversations with Mr Kandasamy coupled with his skill and detailed no holds barred information led to a successful outcome and eight weeks post operation I have regained greater distance in walking and although reduced back pain was not the objective of the operation, this has also been evident. Many thanks to a skilled surgeon.

Mr. Jothy Kandasamy. Following the diagnosis that I was suffering from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, Mr. Kandasamy carefully explained the problem, the type of procedure required, and the likelihood of approximately 50% chance of successful outcome. In reality, the outcome has greatly exceeded expectations, dealing with mobility and balance issues, as well as a general improvement in cognitive capability. A very satisfactory outcome for which I want to thank him most sincerely.
