I am a mother of 4 children who were all breast fed for 12 months each over a period of 5 years . I was always happiest with my figure at around 4 months pregnant as I still had a flat stomach but more proportional size breast. After weaning my babies my breast always returned to the original size of 30c and never really altered in shape . I always wore uncomfortable padded bras to try and create better proportion to suit my petite frame. As I got older I always thought my breast size would increase naturally but they have just remained the same . I have considered breast augmentation for around 10 years but didn't always feel I could justify surgery and cost as I am completely healthy and happy in general. After much research I eventually attended a free open consultation evening at my local Spires Hospital in October 2016. Two consultants presented various procedures and options available along with pre and post sugery photographs. The public were able to ask questions which were answered in detail by both consultants. I didn't ask any questions as I didn't feel confident in a large group but did speak to a nurse for some time afterwards who was very helpful. My husband and I were very impressed with the consultant Jonathan Adamthwaite's qualifications ,experience, knowledge and manner. We both concluded from that evening that if I was to go ahead with surgery it would definitely be performed by him. I arranged a consultation with Mr Adamthwaite which I was unable to attend due to a virus and had to cancel and re arrange for a later date in May 2017.My husband attended all appointments with me but there was also a chaperone available each time if required. Mr Adamthwaite put me at ease immediately upon meeting him and I felt no nerves at all. He asked how he could help and what I would like to achieve. I confirmed to him that I would just like to be in proportion to my frame with the natural tear drop shaped implants.. He explained in detail the procedure and possibilities of leakage (even though small risk) and gave me a full examination and checked for any lumps whilst nurse was present and took detailed measurements. He concluded that I would be suitable to receive implants behind the muscle and provided me with information of what I could and could not do up to 12 weeks after surgery. Due to spending several months out of the country my procedure was booked for 30th September 2017. I was provided with a welcome pack from the hospital and full details of what to expect upon my arrival on the day. Payment was required prior to surgery and I opted to pay in full over the telephone which was made very easy. I attended the pre op clinic a couple of weeks before surgery and was able to ask any questions to the nurse who also reminded me to bring 2 post surgery bras of different sizes with me and an overnight bag . I felt no nerves at all on the day and was fully confident I had chosen the best consultant. I was admitted at 7.30am and shown to my room by welcoming staff. Mr Adamthwaite examined me and took detailed measurements and photographs before my surgery. My anesthetist also introduced himself to me and checked my history was all correct. Mr Adamthwaite visited me after surgery and confirmed that the procedure had gone well and advised me that the nurse would arrange for a 7 day and 14 day check with them to change my dressing and an appointment to see him in 6 weeks time. I was well looked after and comfortable but was happy to stay in overnight due to a little nausea from the anesthetic I was discharged the next day with required medication and my recovery went really well . I stuck to the post op do's and don'ts and couldn't be happier. The nurse gave me surgery tape to apply over my scars after bathing/showering to help to reduce scarring for the next few months. My husband did have to help me to get up from lying flat for the first few nights sleep. Due to being advised not to lift my arms above my head for the first 2 weeks he also had the pleasure of washing my long hair ! I can honestly say that was more painful than the actual procedure and would run a mile if he ever offered again :) I had my post surgery examination with Mr Adamthwaite 6 weeks after surgery and he was very pleased with the result too. The scars are under each breast and already very fine as I didn't have any bruising at all from the procedure. He took post surgery pictures and reminded me to contact him at any time in the future if I have any questions or concerns. I thanked him for taking great care of me and providing me with what I now feel is a natural shape and size for my posture. I feel privileged to have received such great care from him and no anxiety or stress what so ever. I am looking forward to getting back to running and swimming in the next 3 to 4 weeks and feel more natural now than I ever did in padded bras. Thank you Jonathan
